Over the years we have amassed thousands of photos and hours of videos of the shows that @vieffertje and I have done with Vervool. But one show I will never forget was in 2018 at the @zurheide.feine.kost gourmet festival. @patrickvvonvacano from @original_beans chocolate, our partner and friend, had asked us to do something special, something audacious and had never been done before.
“Can you make a world record?” He asked us with a German accent. “There will be 1500 people and we want all of their attention.”
“Of course Patrick, not a problem”
Patrick had some friends from Bayern who could make entire bierstubes in a day, so he put them to work to build a table to paint the painting on. He put me in a fancy @lenouveauchef jacket with more sponsor logos than @maxverstappen1
I sent my recipes to the Pastry Shop in Zur Heide, Dusseldorf so that they could help me prepare over 60kg/130lbs of dessert.

Vivienne asked @florianweberofficial to play piano in what turned out a 90 minute improvised masterpiece which inspired me while painting with an insane amount of dessert pieces.

Eventually, we did it. An edible art piece of 40 square meters/ 430 square feet was created because of all the pieces in the machine worked together.
I will remember the year I turned 30 as the year I set a world record: The World’s largest (edible) pastry painting.

This is Vivienne Aerts or @vieffertje ,our female half of Vervool.
Vivi is changing the world. She is making an album with 100 female musicians, technicans and other artists. With every album you buy, you get a bar of @original_beans @originalbeansprof Femmes de Virunga chocolate. This chocolate is made by 1500 female farmers in the deep jungle of @virunganationalpark in DRC. For every bar that Original Beans sells, they plant a tree. Every 70 gram bar of Femmes de Virunga chocolate draws down 250 gram of CO2. It is carbon negative or climate positive. Part of the revenue of this chocolate is used to protect the rainforest and the gorillas that live in it.

This is not charity, it is giving everybody what they deserve.
You get music, the musicians get paid for their music, the farmers get a livable wage for their cocoabeans.
The gorillas and other wildlife get a safer natural habitat.
And we all get an earth with a bit more trees and a little less pollution.

Amazing news! The documentary about my boat album has been selected for two film festivals!! Swan in Perth, Australia, and LIFF Leiden International Film Festival in the Netherlands! Im still buzzing and will make a bigger post later, but here is a video of our concert yesterday. We had around 100 people, everybody was happy, the weather was amazing, and the musicians were literally “rocking” the boat with me .. so thankful, I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate my new album ‘Current’🙏 just wow!!!

Today, my new album Current is officially out!! I made a website where you can read the liner notes, all the ins and outs about the project and an interactive water-map. Check it out! For my new album, I recorded the lock near Café Harbour @cafedehaven in Roelofsarendsveen, I wanted to know what kind of sounds this one would make. So I lowered my self-made hydrophone into the water to see whether we had any travel companions below the surface, or if it was just us. Little tiny sounds and bubbles entered my ears… perfect for my songs.
Going through a water lock is a special experience. It is a mix of industrial precision, and craftmanship, this one you can open and close yourself. It also has the romance of boating: slowly sinking down and entering a new world when the gates open again. I tried to capture that feeling in one of the songs, called “Waterlock”. - on Current, coming out on June 26th

For the first time, you can hear little fragments of Current 🌊
I made a one-minute trailer with tiny pieces of songs from the album: voice, water, boat sounds, electronics, harmonica, saxophone, bass, and all the unpredictable sounds of recording on a 1951 Dutch sailboat.

This album was recorded on a tiny 1951 Dutch sailboat, De Vouw, during a two-week journey across Dutch waterways. The album combines voice, electronics, acoustic instruments, field recordings, and the natural sounds of water, wind, wood, locks, and birds.

In this short trailer you’ll hear fragments of:

🎶The first single, “Nothing Needs the World” will be released on @bandcamp on June 12, but I wanted to give you a first glimpse before it officially comes out.

Sometimes you need a little “nothingness” in your life. In Buddhism, nothingness does not simply mean the absence of things. It points more toward emptiness: a state in which we become aware that our thoughts, emotions, and all phenomena are not fixed or permanent. Through meditation, this can bring clarity, stillness, and freedom. It is not just about becoming empty. It is about insight and liberation.

As I looked at the world, and by extension my own world, I felt that we might all need a little more stillness. A little more nothingness. Room to think, to contemplate, and to let thoughts and emotions land where they should.

This song features sounds from the reeds and birds on Lake Braassem and Paddegat, as well as waves gently bumping against the mahogany hull of De Vouw, my 1951 Dutch sailboat ⛵️. Adinda Meertins @adindameertins plays bass on a quiet stretch of the southern part of that same lake. Hermine Deurloo @herminedeurloo deurloo recorded multiple harmonica lines in the canal of the center of Amsterdam that somehow fit together like puzzle pieces.

Sticks & Stones
In vancouver, @tactile_texture taught us how natural dyeing works. Coming back to New York, we set out to work rust and eucalyptus into thick, raw linen canvas. @vieffertje then sowed sticks and stones onto it. An ode to Wabi Sabi. Capturing nature into canvas, like light onto a picture. Nothing lasts forever, all stages of life are beautiful in its own way.
