Thank you Ted Steinebach, who always joins me on my crazy endeavors and helps me carry the weight of being an independent musician.

Thank you Ivo Van Oerle for supporting my vision and sharing the love for water, boats and our hometown @gemeenteleiden @stadvanontdekkingen Gemeente Leiden.

Thanks John Brussel @john_brussel_fotografie and Sebastiaan Zoomers @byzoomers and Ted Steinebach for the photos.

Thanks everyone here on the @madrecordscollective community with Michael Gilbride & Rob Schustack for helping keep focus and making me feel like I’m not alone in this, it’s sooo special to have almost daily Zoom where you can literally ask anything!!

Here is what I learned from recording my music on a tiny sailboat. How do you move with the current?

I set out to make an album on the water, but in the end, I made an album with the water.

This journey started a couple of years ago, when the world ground to a halt and I bought a small 1951 mahogany sailboat to disappear into for a while. I renamed her *De Vouw*, Dutch for *The Fold*, a nod to origami, but also to the way the boat folds through the water as it moves.

During those first outings, I noticed something I could not stop thinking about: the stillness on the water had its own sound. The lake had a natural reverb. The boat creaked, the birds answered, the reeds moved, the wind interrupted, and somehow all of it felt like part of the music.

In the summer of 2025, we returned to that same little boat to record *Current*. We traveled from Leiden to Lake Braassem, up to Amsterdam and back, meeting musicians, friends, family, and strangers along the way. Susanne Alt joined us by Beatrix Park, Hermine Deurloo played in a hidden spot in the oldest part of Amsterdam, and Adinda Meertins’ double bass came aboard *De Vouw*, where it also became a very elegant wind blocker.

For two weeks, sunrise and sunset became my clock. The waves became my metronome. The water told me when to wait, when to move, when to let go, and when to stop trying to control everything.

I learned about my own country by returning to its root: the water. I learned about my own creativity by letting it be shaped by wind, weather, silence, and motion.

Because when life becomes difficult, sometimes the only thing you can do is move with it.

This is me. This is *Current*.

*Current* comes out June 26.

Thanks so much to my team and creatives!

Yesterday was a such a blessing, I had a pop-up solo show so I could test out my new electronic setup at one of the most peaceful places in Brooklyn the @bkgreenwaybotanical @bkgreenway - designed 10 years ago by @nelsonbyrdwoltz and @marvel_is_design as a monument to renewal.
Im so stoked about my new Osmoses @expressive_e - such a powerful tool, the touch and the sounds are so intricate, so organic, it goes perfectly with the boat… and the blend is amazing with the @arturia_official Microfreak and the @korgofficial R3 - the album is coming out in a week and the big show with full band will be on the @manhattanbysail Clipper city. There is a few tickets left - DM me for the link with discount code.

The JW Vibe: “Mody describes his relationship with touch in almost spiritual terms. “It’s everything,” he says. “I’m devoted to it, and it’s a ‘yoga’ for me when no one else is hearing me play, practice, or compose.” His compositional guide, he adds, is not the notes themselves but how the notes make him feel.

That philosophy explains why the dynamics of “Architecture of Belonging” are created without simply turning up the volume. A single plucked note can feel exposed; a sustained tone can open a larger space; a fluid run can suddenly accelerate the pulse. His attack changes, his resonance shifts and silence becomes part of the phrasing.”

🎬 WORLD PREMIERE · With the Current at the @leideniff
 Leiden International Film Festival

A year ago we set out on De Vouw, a 1951 mahogany sailboat, to record an album on the Dutch waterways. We filmed the whole journey.

With the Current is the story of that album, and of the water itself: how the Dutch live with it, shape it and depend on it, and the people who work with it every day. It’s a film about listening, to music, to a landscape, and to each other.

This Thursday it has its world premiere at the Leiden International Film Festival. For more than 21 years, LIFF has been one of the Netherlands’ leading film festivals, showing films from all over the world that sit between arthouse and mainstream. Premiering in Leiden, close to the waters where it was made, means the world to us.

After the screening: a Q&A, a live mini-concert from the album Current, and a reception afterwards.

📍 Volkshuis, Leiden
🗓️ Thursday, October 15, 14:00

Today is Music Advocacy Day!
Recording Academy members from across the country are meeting with lawmakers to protect human creativity in the age of AI and ensure music continues to thrive. Grateful to take part in a meeting with Athena Moore, District Director for Rep. Yvette D. Clarke’s office to talk about advocacy for musicians, creators and working artists. I’m not afraid to admit…

1. That I belong in more than one place. - New York and Leiden are both home to me, at the same time. For years I thought I had to choose. Now I know my heart can have two addresses.

2. That for a long time I didn’t feel I had the right to my own voice. - I kept putting myself last and making myself smaller so everyone else had room. Reclaiming my voice, and the space I deserve, has been the most important work of my life, both as an artist and as a person.

3. That I always felt like an outsider. - In music, in new cities, in rooms where I wasn’t sure I fit. Then one day I realized I’d been looking for permission I didn’t need. I belong. I always did.

That’s what our song Architecture of Belonging is about: building a home inside yourself, one step at a time. 🏛️🎶
