Karst
Pressured floor to ceiling underneath the E19 in Brussels, multiple pilars shape the new ‘Bridge’ stage at @xrds.be. The design integrates seamlessly with the d&b sound alongside the lights by @_dreamplant.

These huge columns combined with elevated flooring, create a cave-like feeling meant for ecstatic dancing.

My heart is full, thank you so much everyone who has helped build this massive dancefloor, allowed me to take up space in the festival and those who supported me throughout the process 🤍

Smoke as mass
A roof of smoke to cover the dancefloor at Club Vismarkt, Leuven. Two 36m long textile ventilation shafts that gradually fill the air with smoke over the visitors. Five fridays the public square got activated for the city festival, part of het Groot Verlof. Captured by @smn_brynrt.

Designed in a way the intervention took only 5 parking spots of the busy trade between Fridays. Scaffold structures closely guard the trees to support a 15m overhang.

A closer look at OFF THE GRID: Stan Vrebos.

What if temporary architecture could offer a more sustainable way to build? Stan Vrebos explores this question through modular structures, rented construction materials and recyclable 3D-printed connectors, placing reuse at the centre of his practice.

Discovering new ways to build, with less waste.

Scenography for the Midterm Review of @fieldstationstudio’s After Images: Reframing Media Ecologies summer studio at @gsapp_aad, developed in collaboration with @michielhelbig over two weeks in New York.

For the Midterm Review, students presented their Mediagrams, mapping the research around a series of images through their mediality, mediation and media ecology. The scenography extends the Mediagrams beyond their fixed presentation, rescanning and processing their content to explore other possible readings and connections within the research and reimagining them as dynamic information clusters.

C-stand, monitor, iPhone and iPad clamps, LED panels and holofan.

🤍 premiere of ‘In the Afterglow’ by the lovely @emiel.vandenberghe together with Birgit Keil 🤍 now on tour x by @vrebosstan

After 3 intense hours and 651 slow-shutter images of making sure every inch of this space was clearly captured, I managed to scan the most challenging space and installation I’ve ever had to scan.

With technology rapidly evolving, the way this 3D scan was made will be extinct in the future. Who needs a picture of every angle of a space when AI fills in the gaps, right? Still, photogrammetry remains a craft that needs nourishing. Like every other art form, its value lies in the time-consuming process where the angle of the camera leads to the reconstruction of a 3D space.

Viaduct is the last but not least of the three stages designed for @xrds.be. Emphasising the horizontal lines of the low E19 passing over.

Assembled out of different sets of scaffolding, wooden I-beams, reused corrugated sheets and wooden plates.

The scenography rig is an on-site installation announcing XRDS Festival’s first art integrations. Carried up a hill, positioned so the E19 disappeared on the horizon of the screen.

The projection ran 1,5 hour and was captured as a timelapse of 33 seconds. Through this method, the surrounding landscape fades away while the carefully edited video by @tangheniels takes the viewer’s attention.

The First Scenography Rig: structure, image and site as one apparatus.
A 2×3m transparent mesh screen.
A 12-meter scaffolding track.
5 custom 3D-printed connectors.

Before the Bridge of @xrds.be was even built we brought the design on site

A 2-meter camera rig, mounted on a 13 meter scaffolding track with
5 custom 3D-printed connectors. Designed to attach
to any pipe, any structure, anywhere.

A transparent mesh screen of 2 x 3 meter with a rear projection of a 3D render by @lewi.moors presented a hologram in the space where the stage will stand.

The site becomes part of the image. The First Scenography Rig, a first test of a new system.

‘Office cubicle’ is a elevated formwork room showcasing scaffolding design furniture, hacked through 3Dprinted connections for Parasit, an exhibition hosted by @antonwvripon and @simonhampikian.

Captured beautifully by @smn_brynrt, architectural photographer and 3D scanning expert, carefully treated every image allowing the idea to expand and exist through digital media.

Formwork panels create a room resting on the former storage structure of steel distributor Jean Wauters Steel. Inside of it a timestamp of current result of possible assemblies using 3D-printed hacks.
