🍁Maple Syrup. The most iconic symbol of Canada. Yet such a small percentage of Canadians get to experience the process. I had the privilege this year.

The process is simple: Tap some trees, collect the water, boil the water. Syrup! But the rewards are more than just liquid gold.

This is what noticing simple things looks like.

79 tapped trees. 1130 liters of maple water. 3x 12hr days boiling. 47 liters of maple syrup 🍁 taken in Lachute, Quebec by @waynebrinton

At 15, I watched Rocky IV and loved it. Still do. By 18, when I stopped competitive swimming, I had @dolphlundgren ‘s poster on my closet door as training inspiration. It worked—though I never achieved his physique.

At 47, Looking for a fitness change I watched Rocky IV again sparking a new journey. I took up boxing where @alex.underdog “trained” me (read: tried to kill me on a bi-weekly basis). I got hooked, dropped 45lbs, did an amateur exhibition fight, and continue boxing to this day. Boxing changed how I looked at fitness.

On my 50th birthday, while talking about that old poster, Marie asked what it looked like. During my search, algorithms conveniently showed search results of Dolph at 50—still a specimen—again motivating me to keep grinding.

Today at @goldsgym , he was there, hitting the heavy bag. I see him at the gym all the time, but this was the first time we were sharing the heavy bag area. I got to tell him a small portion of this story.

Life is weird sometimes. But life is absolutely amazing too! taken in Gold's Gym by @waynebrinton
