Happy Fire Prevention Week from the West Chester Fire Department!

While Fire Prevention Week is officially celebrated one week a year, fire prevention is an everyday responsibility!

This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on the importance of safely charging lithium-ion batteries and understanding the potential hazards they can pose.

While staying mindful of charging safety, let’s not forget the basics that help keep our families safe every day:

🚨 Working Smoke Alarms: Make sure you have smoke alarms on every level of your home and inside and outside sleeping areas.

🏠 A Family Escape Plan: Know two ways out of every room and practice your escape plan together.

📍 A Safe Meeting Place: Choose a designated meeting spot outside, a safe distance from your home, where everyone can gather and be accounted for.

🔥 Get Out and Stay Out: If a fire occurs, get outside and never go back inside for any reason.

The @wcfiredept is always here and ready to serve our community! If you have questions about fire safety or would like to learn more, please reach out to us or stop by any of our three stations to visit with our volunteers.

A little preparation today can make a lifesaving difference tomorrow.

Stay safe, West Chester, and Happy Fire Prevention Week! by @wcfirepiomarch

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | OCTOBER 4–10 🔥

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”

🔌 Fully charged? Time to unplug!

Unplug your device when it is fully charged. Leaving it plugged in longer than needed can increase heat and stress on the battery, potentially increasing the risk of a battery-related fire.

Small charging habits can make a big difference in keeping your home, family, and community safe.

Plug in. Power up. Unplug when fully charged. Stay safe!

🔥 Fire Prevention Week continues! 🚒

Our Tuesday brought the @fightin51engine to a local preschool, where our members had the opportunity to visit with the children and talk about the importance of fire prevention and fire safety.

It’s never too early to start learning how to stay safe! We love visiting our local schools and helping teach the next generation about fire safety.

From all of us at the @wcfiredept — thank you for having us! 🚒👨‍🚒👩‍🚒 by @wcfirepiomarch

STOP USING YOUR DEVICE RIGHT AWAY if the battery:

• Smells strange
• Feels warm or hot to the touch
• Makes popping or unusual noises
• Changes shape or color
• Produces smoke

If it is safe to do so, move the device away from anything that can catch fire.

A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire. Taking action at the first sign of a problem can help keep you, your family, and your home safe.

🔋 Charge safely. Stay alert. Stay safe.

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | CHARGE SAFELY 🔥

The @wcfiredept reminds everyone that where you charge your devices matters!

🔌 Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor.

🛏️ Avoid charging on beds, couches, or pillows. These soft surfaces can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat and increase the risk of fire.

Small changes in our everyday charging habits can make a BIG impact on fire safety.

⚡ Charge smart. Charge safe. Stay safe.

🔥 Fire Prevention Week 2026 🔥

This year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge Into Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” ⚡🔋

The @wcfiredept reminds everyone that safe charging habits can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires.

🔌 Always use the cord and charger that came with your device, or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Plug in. Power up. Stay safe. 💪⚡
