My interview about this coming Monday’s Sangat show in Northampton, MA with the Fabulous 413 on @nepublicmedia was too much fun. Listen to the whole conversation at https://www.nenc.news/show/the-fabulous-413 . Still a few tickets left for our show on March 16 at @parlorroommusic ! taken in Northampton, Massachusetts by @wearesangat

This coming Monday 3/16, we welcome the warm and expansive unity of Punjabi and Afghani traditional sounds to Northampton — @wearesangat explores a forgotten legacy of Sikh-Muslim musical collaboration with Afghan-American rabab player Qais Essar, Sikh-American trumpet player Sonny Singh (Red Baraat), and the Punjabi-British tabla player Sukhmani. The project keenly explores justice through music across borders and cultures.

I’m overjoyed to share that I was asked, and accepted with my whole heart, to join @wearesangat, a project co-created by my new, dear friends, @iamsonnysingh and @qaisessar

Sangat is togetherness and community, lived in practice.

Playing with these two has felt immediately generous, incredibly listening-forward, collaborative, principled, and so much fun. The music asks for presence and care. There is space for joy and for grief, for immense beauty, for responsibility, and courage. Sound and values are woven together.

I’m deeply grateful to be doing this work with them, and excited for what’s unfolding.

Tour dates coming very soon.

It was an honor to perform at @nycmayor Zohran Mamdani’s interfaith breakfast last week with @qaisessar and @sukhmanimusic as @wearesangat. We opened the event with a shabad by Guru Nanak Ji followed by a qawwali song. For us the message is the same - Divine Oneness is a call to action to fight all forms of oppression and stand in solidarity with those under attack. What a time it is in New York City to have a mayor who feels the same way. 🙏🏽💜✊🏽

There are no hierarchies in the world beyond—the revolutionary words of Guru Nanak painfully relevant today.

Thanks for building sangat with us this week Richmond, DC, and State College. We need it more than ever. #fuckice

One of the highlights of 2025 was launching a new musical project together rooted in building expansive community in times of fascism. Here’s our rendition of Amir Khusrau’s ghazal Khabaram Raseeda Imshab from our album release show in NYC at @dromnyc in October, featuring @manzoemily and @mir_tabla.

We’re starting this year with a mini tour on the east coast next week with @sukhmanimusic joining us on tabla.

Jan 7 - Richmond, VA at @revelerexperiences
Jan 8 - Washington, DC at @hillcenterdc
Jan 9 - State College, PA at @mannysstatecollege
Jan 10 - NYC at @dromnyc Secret Planet showcase (free with APAP badge) with @ria_modak joining us

Here’s to growing our sangat and smashing fascism in 2026.

A story long forgotten, now retold. We are reclaiming the hidden history of Sikh and Muslim collaboration where music, spirit, and resistance were once one.

This is more than the past, it’s a reminder of what’s possible. 🌀
