We’re Tired Too. We Want To Go Home.

Fort Worth City Council did a good thing on 8/11/26, taking steps for a data center moratorium, but then cut public comments from three minutes to one after folks waited almost 6 hours to speak. 🤦‍♂️

This is Wesley giving them his thoughts.

I feel so lucky to be a dad.
Amanda went through so much to bring our beautiful Adelita into the world, making me a dad, and I am forever grateful. Now we get to raise her together and relive our childhoods alongside our daughter's.

Here's a brief list of the things I'm looking forward to as her dad:
-Hearing her laugh so hard that she cries.
-Playing rough with her and yeeting her into the air.
-Coming home to the pitter-patter of her lil feet charging at me.
-Seeing her delight in foods I was too picky to try as a kid.
-Building castles made of cardboard for her to play in.
-Seeing her play in the dirt with my cat Lasso.
-Hearing her tell me a fun fact she learned.
-Meeting a friend she made (even if it's a bug).
-Seeing art she made that she's proud of.
-Getting hugged by her so hard it hurts.

If I keep writing this list, I'm going to cry. So that's all for now. Happy Father's Day, y'all. taken in Fort Worth, Texas by @wesleykirk

Village, meet our daughter, Adelita Catarina Reyes. She has her mother's long curly hair, and her father's restlessness. After 39 hours of labor, she came into this world like she was shot out of a cannon. taken in Fort Worth, Texas by @wesleykirk

I never take for granted how unbelievably talented my husband is. Maternity photos by Daddy-to-be @wesleykirk

Final month. Baby is almost here. Our little family we’ve been dreaming of will soon be a reality. Creating life is so unbelievably physically, mentally, spiritually complex. There’s so much to say about it and, yet, my own words don’t seem to ever do it justice. This miraculous experience juxtaposed with everything going on in our world, nation, communities has been challenging, to say the least. I couldn’t do it without Wesley. We’re going to raise one incredible kid. And all together we will continue to fight to make the world a better place. taken in Fort Worth, Texas by @wesleykirk

Mayor Mattie Parker decided to move the last public comments meeting of 2025 to 5pm from 6pm. Then, they cut our time from 3 minutes to 90 seconds (Wesley got a little longer with a group), so the Mayor and Council could make it to the Tree Lighting. A photo op is more important than the people.

Wesley Kirk is just an incredible advocate for the arts in Fort Worth. We are so lucky to have him. He was standing up at Council for the Fort Worth Community Arts Center 🎭 🗣️

The last time we got an update on the redevelopment of the Fort Worth Community Arts Center was June 4th, 2024.

It's time that we demand the Fort Worth Community Arts Center be restored. We cannot let this vital resource stay empty & neglected by the city any longer.

The last public comment of the year is Tuesday, December 2nd at 6pm in Fort Worth City Hall. Let's bring artists, arts supporters, and art advocates together to speak up on behalf of the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. taken in Fort Worth City Hall by @wesleykirk

72 registered to speak at Fort Worth City Council Public Comments on 10/14. I’m highlighting incredible speeches and speakers.

You know it’s getting bad when City Employees are afraid to raise their own voices. Wesley Kirk read a letter from a City employee. It’s heartbreaking. 💔 💔💔💔

Just over 2 months ago I got hired by Amphibian Stage to be their Development & Community Relations Manager.

I've worked for myself my whole life, always joking that I've never had a "real" job. But this past year I realized I wanted a community outreach job, because I'm so passionate about building community that I wanted to finally get paid to do all the community work I've been doing for years.

Amphibian Stage was one of the only places I even considered, because they're the best theater in town, I was already friends with the staff, and I've advocated for them a lot.

It was my first time applying for a real job, first time doing a real job interview. I didn't know if I'd get it, because I'm not the most professional person and have almost no history of development. But on my birthday, I was driving home from the grand opening of a coworking space I've been helping to build, when I got the call where they offered me the job.

They said that they could start me in June, and the first words out of my mouth were "but what about SparkFest?" I knew their biggest event of the year was coming up fast, a 10-day performing arts festival that required everything they had to make it work properly. Luckily they found some money to start me earlier so that I could help them bring the festival to life.

Since then it's been a great experience advocating for them in the community, collaborating with neighbors, connecting artists, documenting the work, getting them money, making miracles happen, and helping share the story of all the great things happening at Amphibian Stage.

I'm very lucky that my first "real" job is with such talented, capable, caring coworkers, in a space who's mission I align with so well, and that still provides me the flexibility to continue my work with Vision & Verve, Support Fort Worth Art, and even starting another job producing the 817 Podcast (more on that later).

Even though I haven't had a day off since April, and am busier than ever with my FOUR jobs, I feel very fulfilled that I'm finally getting paid for community work that I'm so passionate about. taken in Amphibian Stage by @wesleykirk

Greetings intergalactic lifeforms, Captain Wesley Kirk here broadcasting from the crumbling remains of planet Earth. For my 35th birthday, I have a simple request: ALIENS, COME TO EARTH!
Teach us your ways. Wear your traditional alien attire. Bring dishes from your homeworld. Show us your stellar dance moves. Offer whatever your planet calls diplomacy.
Maybe you'll bring about world peace, maybe total annihilation. Anything is better than what we have going on now. Either way, it'll be a hell of a party! taken in Planet Earth by @wesleykirk
