Magic? Coincidence? Erosion? It’s pretty simple, actually. It’s whatever you choose, and I choose magic and whimsy every time. by @wildcraftforaging

Knowing what not to forage is just as important as knowing what to forage. One brings you magic, one brings you death, and you better be prepared for both! taken in Missouri by @wildcraftforaging

Inside the persimmon seed lies the answer to your burning question “How do we best prepare for winter?” Fork = mild winter. Knife = icy, cold winter. Spoon = snowy winter. What do you think the persimmons have to say?

Here’s a quick lil sketchy-sketch I did on how long seeds last! A general rule is: herbs have a general shelf life of 1-3 years, vegetables 3-5 years and flowers 2-5 years.

If you’ve noticed more acorns falling this year, you’re not imagining it. It’s called a mast year, or a bumper crop year, for many oaks in many states.

Some even say a mast year will bring a particularly harsh winter. Although there is no solid evidence to this, I do believe our tree friends know much more about what is to come than we do. by @wildcraftforaging

This is an Earthstar mushroom (genus Geastrum). They start out as closed bulbs underground, but as they mature, the outer layer splits open into these perfect star-shaped rays to lift up the spore sac in the middle. When raindrops hit the center, it actually puffs out spores like a tiny volcano! Nature’s geometry never fails to amaze ✨ and to meet my first one on the autumn equinox is just…chefs kiss (but don’t eat these). by @wildcraftforaging
