•2026 Mack’s Cutdown Classic•

7 years ago I competed in the 2019 Mack’s Cutdown Classic. It was my first calling contest ever and I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing or anyone who even competed. Just a kid from Alabama who had a passion for duck calls and duck hunting. Somehow, at the end of that contest I found myself standing amongst some of the legends of the game. Fast forward to 2026 I find myself coming out on top of the same contest that started it all for me; still standing amongst those legends who I now consider my friends. It’s crazy to look back on and see how much these contests have impacted my life. I’ve met some amazing people along the way and made friendships that have helped get me to where I am today. I want to say thank you to every person who is involved with orchestrating and running these contests for us. Your time, energy, and effort is appreciated more than you know!

Ducks need us now more than ever. The wintering grounds can’t look like this if the habitat in the Prairies are degraded or lost. If these wetland easements disappear the ducks disappear with it, plain and simple. Let’s not be the generation that loses North America’s Waterfowl population. Visit ducks.org and sign the petitions. Let your voice be heard, the ducks are depending on it!

| Down Home Longbeards |

In the woods where they beat me, where they taught me, and where I learned. Carrying on a legacy from the ones who came before me. 6 springs without him now and I still carry that wingbone call from the last one I ever got to show him. I swear that thing will pull a gobble out of one when nothing else will, and I have to believe that’s not a coincidence. Hunting at home is special for more reasons than familiarity. It slows me down, grounds me, and helps me reflect on where I’ve been and where I’m going. I can feel it every time I step into those pines, and there’s no finer place to partake in the spring ritual than right there, at home. taken in Alabama by @will_jones09

THE SUNSHINE STATE…It’s foreign ground for most but flooded with eager excitement from turkey hunters who’ve waited all year to suit up again. With that comes its own set of challenges. Navigating the pressure, strategizing, and playing the public ground game. Covering miles in a day just searching for the right one. It’ll make you question it all, and just when you think you’ve come to the end of your rope opportunity presents itself to the persistent. I never said all of that was exactly “fun” but a necessary part of the journey, and the experience, and without it the success just isn’t as sweet.

Here’s to Turkey Season again and a damn fine way to kick off Spring 2026. If I don’t hold another one, I’m still just thankful I lived to see it once more. taken in Florida by @will_jones09

One last push to cap off a spring I’ll never forget.

It was spontaneous and it was irrational but driving 14 hours through the night with only a day and a half to hunt felt like my only option. Spring was fading and I wasn’t ready to let it go. I needed to hear it, see it, and feel it one final time. The turkey I crossed paths with did his part. He heard the call and gave me everything I had came for. Watching him strut to within 20 I knew it was time, even though a part of me wasn’t ready to see it end. I couldn’t have asked for a finer conclusion to an unbelievable spring. So no matter how irrational or just flat out dumb it may have seemed, the experience waiting on the other side of crazy is something I’ll never regret. by @will_jones09
