Wagging Taills by Will Kurtz ... work in progress .

For the upcoming iteration of Repsychling in Taiwan at the National Tainan Living Museum, we commissioned artist Will Kurtz to create a fantastical canine wonderland.

Including, three tails wag in perpetual motion, constructed from upcycled newspapers and repurposed windshield wipers. Through automation, Kurtz transforms discarded materials into a playful, uncanny choreography, bringing movement and gesture to materials that have been otherwise discarded.

Will Kurtz brings Albert Einstein back down to earth—not as the untouchable icon of genius, but as a man caught in the act of thinking.

Seated with manuscript in hand, Einstein appears absorbed in the deeply human process behind ideas that would ultimately reshape our understanding of the universe. Kurtz constructs the figure from newspaper, cardboard, wire, and other everyday materials, allowing fragments of printed history and contemporary culture to become part of Einstein himself.

The result is both portrait and narrative: genius not as a monument, but as a moment—quiet, imperfect, curious, and still at work.

For our upcoming iteration of Repsychling at the National Tainan Living Art Center, artist Will Kurtz is transforming discarded newspapers into a collection of playful canine sculptures, giving familiar materials a new life, form, and purpose.

Created through an upcycling process in the United States, these newspaper dogs will make their way to Taiwan, where they will become part of an exhibition exploring resource circulation, material reuse, and environmental sustainability.
Through humor, imagination, and a whole lot of newspaper, Kurtz invites us to reconsider what we throw away—and what might happen when we see waste not as an ending but as a beginning.

Kurtz’s work has been presented at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn, Adelson Galleries, Queens Museum, and other cultural venues across the United States and internationally, and has been featured in programs connected to UNESCO and United Nations Climate Week. by @willkurtz
