Hi, here is a little life update/introduction for anyone new here! I am Brianne she/her (34) from Toronto Canada. I am a creative soul. If there is a way to make it, I have probably either tried, or plan to try in the future. This page mostly shows my sewing and some crochet creations, of which there have been many! You will see that i do a lot of pattern tests for indie designers, which i greatly enjoy. If you are interested in my watercolours/other art, feel free to check out my other page @briannecarroll

I am also a spoonie, which means I live with chronic pain and illnesses. If you haven't heard of the spoon theory, I highly recommend looking it up! I am always happy to talk to fellow spoonies, feel free to DM me!

I still have my business page on Etsy: willowflowerdesign.etsy.com
But I am much less active creating new things to sell. That being said, if you are interested in a custom order, I still may take some from time to time. But, I am starting a new opportunity for myself in September 2026, I am going back to college to learn to be a library technician! I am so excited for this. If you know me well you know that I am a lover of books, especially fantasy. I feel that my love of books plus the new inclusions of creative technologies in local libraries, plus the quiet atmosphere, will be a perfect setting for me going forward!

I definitely still plan to create: sew, crochet, paint, and make in many different ways though.

All that to say, welcome to my page if you are a new or old follower. I'm so glad to have you here, and my DMs are always open, I love a chat! ❤️ by @willowflower.design

Happy pattern release day to the Teacher Top by @yoannas_studio !!! 💛 I was honoured to test this lovely pattern that was a tribute to Yoanna's late mother who was a teacher. It has some great details including the pointy hem in the front that is just a bit longer than the back, the classic button placket, and the cuffed sleeves. It also has the option for a 3/4 sleeve length that i want to try out. I used a thrifted embroidered sari in this beautiful saffron yellow, and matched my buttons to the embroidery. As always, Yoanna is wonderful to test for, and it was a great group of testers! Thank you so much for having me!

I did a thing! Some of you might remember my Ornella sewing debacle (it never really fit me even after a ton of self redrafting). No shade to the designer, but i love the look, and wanted one that fits. I was talking with @ali.tries.to.sew who was also struggling, and we came up with the idea to make a version starting with a pattern we know fits well as a base. I took the Sunny side up tank by @matchymatchysewingclub which fits me like a dream, and already has a similar overall shape, then I cut up the front bodice to have the Ornella shapes, and added seam allowance. I also added this cute piping when sewing it together (i have never done piping before). I am super pleased with how it came out!!
I used a thrifted black bedsheet and some @fableism fabric, and i love how it goes with my @threadandsprout Dance pants!!

P.s. the piping idea was inspired by @sewsyntax 's version of the Ornella! by @willowflower.design

Obtained the cutest little @mollymollyfabric garment labels recently, and i can't wait to use them! I can't decide which are my favourites! Pickle jars? Strawberries with legs? A call to choose my own adventure? They are SO good! Thanks Molly Molly!

Happy pattern release to the gorgeous Blair Blouse pattern by @rebeccajanepatterns !!!
I tested this lovely pattern for Rebecca, and am very pleased with how it came out! I sewed up the back instead of putting on snaps so that it could just slip on over my head, and so i could wear it back to front, and it works great either way! The v-neck is the back, and the rounded boat neck is the front, but there is also an option to make a v-neck front and back. I love the silhouette that the many pintucks give. It is a very clever design, allowing for different cup sizes without an fba, and customizable shaping due to the nature of the pintucks.
I made mine out of a thrifted cotton bedsheet. I really want to make a classic white version too!
Thank you so much Rebecca for having me as a tester! I always enjoy working alongside you, and can't wait to see what you create next!

My first @itokri order arrived, and it is simply stunning! The fabrics are so special, but so are all the little details: the hand stamped packaging paper, the handwritten thank you note on handmade paper, and the little red sample fabric they sent. I bought two fabrics, both with a black background, but they are anything but boring. The first one is the striped motif which is an indian hand block printed cotton, which i think will become a gorgeous pair of pants. It has a slightly more red-ish orange overtone than is showing up on camera. The second is something i have never seen before: another hand block printed indian cotton, but with a wide broiderie anglaise border, AND little embroidered 3d dots! This one has a more red-ish purple overtone that isn't showing up in the pictures. It is incredible, and is destined to be a dress i think.
Itokri is an Indian company that sells artisan goods, and supports their local makers. They are a fair trade company, helping to preserve artists' craftwork and pass them down through generations.
I am not being paid or gifted in any way, I just love what they are doing and selling! by @willowflower.design

Here are my pleated shorts version on the Anyday pants pattern by @sewnwithgrit /Lauryn. They fit SO well! I did a contrasting yoke, which made them hard to style, so i made a matching shirt, the @matchymatchysewingclub high tide set shirt (i have made so many of these now!). I used an antique floral tablecloth and a thrifted red cotton sheet. I definitely want to make more of these, they are a great shorts pattern!
Thanks again for having me Lauryn!

I was lucky enough to get to test another @sewnwithgrit pattern by Lauryn! This time it was the awesome Anyday pants. I made the pleated pants view here, out of a thrifted cotton blend sheet, in size X. They are so incredibly comfy and cute!! I used the pointed yoke option, on the front and back. I love the yoke, the pleats, and the wide leg! This is still in testing, and i believe she has made some adjustments since I made mine, including reducing some bulk in the hips and crotch. I would definitely make more of these, I really like them!! In fact, I also made the shorts view, which i will show in another post. Thanks for having me Lauryn!

Visited my favourite used bookstore today (@bearlyusedbooks in Parry Sound, ontario, Canada) and found these gems, plus a free book bag! The people who work there are fantastic, despite having 500,000 books, they know where they all are!! Also, i used to trade my books in there every summer for new ones, so it has a special place in my heart. I got a copy of Circe, by Madeline Miller, because yesterday I recommended it to my cousin, and wanted to lend it to her. I also got 2 great sewing books. First: fantastic fits for every body (a book of sewing adjustments to get your perfect fit every time). And second: the stretch and sew guide to sewing on knits, which teaches you all about sewing knit fabric. Both are going to be SO useful! by @willowflower.design

Congratulations to @mykeepernz on the release of the bubble pants pattern!! I got to test these and made 2 versions. I was outside the measurement range, so i had to do a bit of work to make these fit me, but I think they turned out pretty good! Both are made from thrifted cotton sheets. They feature cute front pleats, a slight barrel leg shape, a false fly, and an elastic waist. Thanks for having me as a tester! by @willowflower.design

I found treasure at the @cookstownantiquemarket yesterday in the form of this adorable little travel sewing kit. I believe it may be from the 1930s based on the age and construction, though i found a similar one online from the 50s, which looked newer to me. This one looks to be handmade, based on the stitching. I love all the little items inside: thimble, scissors, many different needles and threads, safety pins, and what i think is a needle threader. There is only one empty slot, which looks to have held another bit of thread. Amazingly intact for something so old! What a great find! I will definitely be taking this with me when I travel, or throwing it in my purse! by @willowflower.design
