My audience is so beautiful and diverse. I realize that some of you wouldn't know where "Yes Now Spanish Town" came from. The melody for this song is original. But the title and lyrics of the song is a callback to so many of our childhoods in Jamaica. Making this song was a whimsical process. I brought the idea to Dean Fraser and he said "I think you should do it." Coming up with the melody was easy. I asked myself.. if my violin could "say" the words Yes Now Spanish Town, mama ago beat you, take off your clothes and go do your bed" The chorus was set from that point. For the verses, I went based on the chords played by the amazing musicians who were in studio, @brucelim.pl @dariomorgan @jmajorscale @ras_congobilly @obsoundz Arpeggios plus some Spanish sounding ornaments. Plus a likkle Chinese introduction played by @jmajorscale Recording it was so fun because I learned that different generations have different renditions of the taunt. Something about a doo doo stick? #jamaica #newmusic #spanishtown by @yinga_violinist

Yes Now Spanish Town!! It is so disappointing to see so many schools and homes are still knocked down after Melissa. And the lack of empathy from our leadership is shameful. The world is watching. Thank God we have not been silenced. Talk up, act up, rebuild! #Jamaica by @yinga_violinist
Dr. Orville Hammond!! I can finally say that we have played together πŸ˜„ Dr. Hammond plays jazz piano a few nights a week at S Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica. There is so much going on in this video. This caption will be itemized into parts. 1. Kamoy, Dr. Hammond, and Yinga violin Finga did not plan to play this piece this evening. After long days of teaching, @kg_violinist and myself often play chess in the lobby and enjoy Dr. Hammond's music. 2. A visitor from Oklahoma was completely taken up in Dr. Hammond's playing, and once she found out that Kamoy and I both play the violin, we could not escape. It was great to make you smile, Cathy Jameson. 3. Dr. Hammond used to conduct the community orchestra at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. That's currently my gig! And Kamoy was his librarian as a college student. Look at us now. Music lives on, in and through us. Thanks Ryan for capturing this moment. Really special. The words take you way back, but the music brings you into a new future πŸ‡―πŸ‡² Violin has a place in your dancehall/reggae playlist with this original piece, "Yes Now Spanish Town" Go ahead and share it again! These vocals were the finishing touch.. and recorded at @almond.productions .. the same studio that made that famous "1-888-4 Gas Pro" jingle πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ My childhood violin friend, Jovani helped me out with the "Yes Now Spanish Towns" 😁🎻πŸ”₯πŸ™ŒπŸΎ Hope you enjoy this song as much as I enjoyed making it! #violin #originalmusic #jamaica by @yinga_violinist
Morning Devotion πŸ™ŒπŸΎ was very lively!!! Loved the energy on this day. Their voices are so precious! πŸ₯Ή Normally I don't teach at this school on this day, but I decided to come in and play for devotion. Right before this, the MC said "raise your hand if Ms. Owens is your teacher" and some toddlers I've never met before raised their hands πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ cutest thing ever. Really glad that I did this, because the next day (my teaching day) the kids waved when they saw me πŸ₯Ή and I even got a couple hugs??
