Sadly, we have to say goodbye to our little café window in Teton Village. For the last five years we’ve had the immeasurable pleasure of serving carefully crafted coffee out of this tiny room that was once the main entrance to The Mangy Moose. It took a few remodels to make it truly feel like ours and it’s a project that we will look back on proudly. We created the space and the coffee, but you made it special. All of the support and appreciation from our local community, and visitors, is what gave this life and we will be forever grateful for you (and your dogs).

Please join us this Saturday 10/03 to end it on a high note with a farewell party at the cafe. We’ll open as usual from 7 AM – 2PM and from 2–5 PM we’ll have affogatos, treats, snacks, drinks and good times :) All are welcome and we hope to see you there! 🌞 by @yoderyoder

After 15 years, my time as a @patagonia Ambassador has come to an end. It would be easy to leave it at “thanks for the good times, excited for the next chapter” (true), but it’s more fun to tell some of the story.

I had to explain to my parents how I could make snowboarding my job when I told them I wanted to drop out of high school at 16. My dad asked if I’d ever want to work with a company with good values like Patagonia — I said something like, “no because they’re not cool like Volcom.” What I meant, I realized later, was that I wasn’t culturally connected to Patagonia the way I was to what I considered “core” snowboard brands.

Six years later, and wiser, I signed with Patagonia and my life changed. Two years in, I crashed hard and got a concussion severe enough to make me rethink the risks I was taking. I went into my contract meeting that year and told my bosses I couldn’t continue down the extreme path, and that I wanted to use snowboarding as a creative outlet to travel, connect with people, and bring back stories to share. I thought I was showing myself the door, but I walked out with a raise.

Over the years I realized this company was a lot more punk than the brands I thought were cool at 16. I credit that to the radical integrity Yvon Chouinard set as an example in how he lived and built the company. It would have been hard to convince most companies to send me and my buddies @wrkshrt to Turkey with a loose plan to make a documentary about an ancient snowboarding culture, but they said go for it. I pitched “Right to Roam,” our film from Scotland, as “the least romantic snowboarding destination in the world.” They wrote us a check for that one too.

Companies’ problems scale with them, and there are ethical and practical conundrums waiting around every corner. I learned a ton over the years by watching them turn problems into opportunities to change entire industries. That’s what made me proud to represent Patagonia. It’s also what inspired me to start @overviewcoffee.

If I had more time, I would have written a shorter caption. I’m having more fun than ever on a snowboard & I’m excited about what’s next in this sideways life.

Peak action from the camping film ;) this run is up there with some of my favorites from last season. We hadn’t planned to ride this because we didn’t know it was there. We saw it from the top of another run and decided to wrap around and hustle to get up to the top before we lost the sun. We didn’t make it in time and the lack of contrast made it really tricky for @ianbdurkin and me to communicate where I was going to ride and where he should set up. Since we were shooting the whole thing static I knew I had to stay in the frame which in the end came down to luck because I had no idea when Ian and his camera were. I ride out of the frame on this vertical crop, but in the full version it worked out perfectly. [link in bio] by @yoderyoder
