Today I turn 50

And as I reflect on this milestone — which this year also falls on Rosh Hashanah, a time of reflection, renewal, and new beginnings — I notice how easy it is for my mind to go first to everything that could have been.

What I should have done differently.
What I could have accomplished by now.
The opportunities I missed.
The relationships that didn’t work out.
The places I thought I would be at 50 but never reached.

There is a strange tendency, especially around milestones, to measure our lives against some imaginary version of how everything was supposed to unfold.

But awareness gives us another choice.

We may not always be able to control what happens to us. We cannot go back and rewrite the past. But we can choose where we place our attention.

We can choose gratitude.

Gratitude for the experiences that shaped us. For the people who stayed. For the people who came and went and still taught us something. For the unexpected turns. For the things that didn’t work out but redirected us somewhere else.

And most importantly, gratitude for still being here.

This year, that last sentence carries a very different weight for me. Life suddenly feels less like an unlimited resource and more like something incredibly precious that is happening right now.

So yes, there are things I wish I had done differently.

There are dreams I haven’t fulfilled yet.

There are chapters I thought would already have been written.

But there are also chapters that haven’t even begun.

At 50, I don’t want to spend too much time mourning the life I could have lived.

I want to be present for the life that is still available to me.

To create more.
To love more deeply.
To make more music.
To take more chances.
To build things that matter.
To spend more time with people I care about.
And to keep learning how to choose gratitude — especially when my mind wants to choose regret.

Maybe that is one of the gifts of getting older: realizing that gratitude isn’t simply something we feel.

Sometimes it is a choice.

And today, I choose it.

Here’s to 50.
And to whatever comes next. by @yonimarcos

The workshop will be led by Jonathan Marcoschamer (aka Yoni Marcos), founder of the Miami Handpan Academy, who has introduced more than 400 people to the handpan over the past four years.

We’ll begin with a hands-on workshop exploring the fundamentals of this mesmerizing instrument. You’ll learn how to play a composition, improvise, explore different scales, and discover the unique sounds of a variety of handpans. After the workshop, we’ll transition into a relaxing handpan sound meditation. Recline, unwind, and immerse yourself in the soothing sounds and vibrations of the handpan in the beautiful setting of Padma Blooms.

I came into the forest for a few days with one intention:

To finish a song.

There’s something special about creating out here. Less noise. Fewer distractions. More space to experiment.

I brought a small recording setup and two handpans, both centered around the F minor scale.

At the heart of the project is this beautiful handpan, called the F Astronaut, made by @yishama_official

I’ve been exploring the possibilities this instrument has to offer — chords, voicings, rhythms, and melodies.

Some moments are practice.
Some are composition.
Others are just exploration.

But slowly, all these little discoveries start becoming something.

A few days in the forest.
A couple of handpans.
One key.
And one finished song.

F Minor in the Forest.

There are handpans that inspire you to play… and then there are handpans that seem to guide the music for you.

The F3 Integral 15 by @yishama_official is one of those rare instruments. With 15 beautifully balanced notes, this stainless steel handpan offers an expansive melodic range while remaining incredibly intuitive. Every note feels connected, making it easy to create flowing melodies, rich harmonies, and moments of pure improvisation.

Yishama describes the Integral scale as visionary, warm, and filled with trust and appreciation—an instrument that gently reminds us that everything is moving in the right direction.

Whether you’re composing, meditating, or simply getting lost in the sound, the F3 Integral 15 has a unique ability to quiet the mind and open the heart.

This has become one of my favorite scales to play, and every session seems to reveal something new.

New composition in the works for a new project. This one explores the sounds and textures that can ve made with one single handpan by @sewhandpan in the scale of F Pygmy. This scale is a unique and evocative scale the can work wonderfully for handpans, offering a more exotic and mysterious sound. The scale itself is essentially a minor scale with a twist, often featuring intervals that lend themselves to a somewhat haunting, emotional tone. by @yonimarcos
