The last week of June I had the honor and privilege of spending 8 consecutive Studio Days with Ziya Tarapore @ziyasartwork from 10am-4pm each day during her Private Studio Session with us @chicagopulp

Private Studio Sessions are one of my favorite ways to learn and connect with other Artists in the Papermaking community… and literally one of the many favorite parts of my job! because I get to spend such consistent, intentional time working directly with an Artist to support them in the process of actualizing their ideas, developing their projects, and exploring through research.

Sadra is a sacred Cotton garment worn close to the skin by Parsis. Ziya mailed and trusted me to receive, shred, and pulp 12.5lbs of Sadra Cotton Fiber worn by her father and her family. Ziya made (4) 3ft x 6ft sheets, multiple 3ft-6ft sculptural pieces, Paper castings, and multiple 22in × 30in sheets of Paper during her time in the studio. Ziya’s work will be exhibited in 47-A Gallery in Mumbai, India this November 2026.

Ziya’s studio session was ambitious and deeply impactful. Her personal commitments to the process is truly driven by her passionate connections between her mind, spirit, matter, and making. Her heart is so open, holding a deep desire to share, and a willingness to learn through: herself, others and her collaborations with chance.

It was a joy spending time in the studio together listening to Dave Brubeck, House Music, eating good food and co-working with Ayah Yusuf Abdulkadir @ayah_.jpeg and Izabelle Brandli @izzpocketbook
