This Wednesday, July 15th - Trellis kicks off our show at @2220arts. Since the release of their debut album earlier this year, the duo of Jesse Perlstein (@absentwarrior) and Michael Chadwick (@low_res_chungus) have demonstrated their ability to meld detailed field recordings and expressive ambient with song structure and musicality. This performance will showcase all new music from the experimental duo. Don’t miss it!

Oxtail Recordings presents audiovisual zones from near and far, Sunday July 5 at Non Plus Ultra in LA 🌐👾🔊

The final date of Matthew D. Gantt and Mike Nigro’s West Coast USA summer tour with LA-based sonic explorers Jesse Perlstein and Whisper 🌅

Jesse Perlstein is a composer and multi-disciplinary artist based out of Los Angeles. He has spent the last decade and a half creating cross-genre works that often blend the mediums of sound, visual art, prose & interactive room installations, focusing on the confluence between fantasy and reality and exploring their inseparable tangle.

Mike Nigro’s solo practice and collaborations draw inspiration from the minimalists, early synthesizer pioneers, and contemporary experimental underground. His latest work combines field recordings from the Southern hemisphere with rippling arpeggios, cloud-soft chords, and self-schooled sound design with a nod to the 70s kosmische cannon.

Matthew D. Gantt presents a suite of experimental compositions, game engine simulations, and generative audio-visual environments. Drawing from work with Orange Milk and Oxtail Recordings, his performance bridges live electronic music with 3D digital sculptures, imaginary landscapes, and cross-modulation between sound and virtual site.

Whisper is an artist based in Los Angeles, working across poetry, performance, software, and hardware. She dreams of computing that feels like augmented presence, cultivated through generations of loving care.

Excited to finally share some short clips of Gestural Publics from our time at @ammermancenter

This project seeks to undo the genetics of stock motion capture through live performance; along the way we have to deal with the psychological pressure of conformity, implicit disciplinary structures, dysphoria and the slippages of gender, and the illogics of training.

Always an exciting and humbling process to sit with your own work and stare at the gulf between what you thought you were making and what you actually made. So grateful I get to do this with some really smart, generous, excellent collaborators:

the Trellis record has been out for a few weeks and we had an incredible performance on the LA River (thx to @earth__poems & @livingearth.la )

for anyone who missed it (or who loved it) we are performing again (for our proper record release show) on Saturday, June 13th at another beautiful outdoor venue in Eagle Rock at the home of @c.zynski

we’ll be on a terraced backyard overlooking the city with a performance from Trellis(myself & @low_res_chungus ), the radiant @anti.inc performing as “Sunshine” (along with their band @tofanamusic ) , & an ambient set the homeowner himself @c.zynski
we’ll have an album listening session at 7pm & performances to follow. its donation-based so don’t hesitate but RSVP (lincolnbio) to get the address or DM me. & of course we will have tapes for sale!

Trellis • Field of Coincidence

Field of Coincidence is the debut recording documenting the collaboration between LA-based artists Jesse Perlstein (Sontag Shogun, AxOxH) and Michael Robert Chadwick (Fake Sword, Plum Professional), aka Trellis.

Although ambient in scope, these pieces employ pop structures, natural environmental recordings, and FX-laden sound design, to tell emotive stories in abstract auditory theatre. Between swarms of vocal layering and harmonic analog synthesizers, there's a timbral warmth to these tracks that feels refreshing in this AI-driven age of algorithm.

This is not a synth album designed in a laboratory, nor on a perfectly grid-mapped sequencer, the subtle blemishes and analog acoustic artifacts that populate this record throughout serve to remind us that this is human music, made by people (friends, together), for people. Like Hiroshi Yoshimura's 1982 "Music for Nine Postcards" and his beloved 1984 tape "Watering a Flower", this music finds a delicate grandiosity in the private intimacy of a lamplit domestic space.

Field of Coincidence flows slowly, builds in secret, and glitters with life around every measure's bend. At times dark and brooding, at others consonant and crystalline, this multi-hued suite of songs showcases the depth and range of a project burgeoning out of its fruitful first pursuit.

today we give birth to "Sacrificial Anode" the 2nd (and final) single on the new album FIELD OF COINCIDENCE by Trellis. It's a dark, synth odyssey and we love it. Listen to it on @bandcamp & select streamers (apple, tidal, etc.)

The full album is out next week (May 12th) on @aural_canyon on limited edition cassette & digital. You can pre-order on the bandcamp in the link-in-bio.
