POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Last week I was invited to York St John University to deliver an artist talk, thinking about the past 8 years or so of developing a practice and the bumps along the way. I told the story through a list of 62 invoices dating from March 2021 through to the present day. A few days before giving the talk I came across Keith Arnatt’s ‘Is it possible for me to do nothing as my contribution to this exhibition?’ a text written for a 1970 show at Camden Art Centre. I spoke about trying and failing, but not necessarily trying to do nothing. Arnatt was a clever mind.

A big lovely thank you to @nthn.wlkr for the invitation and warmth in hosting!

Rounding up a busy past few months!!

Highlighted by climbing the tallest medieval parish church spire at St James’ Church in Louth w/ @abbyjweaver ⛪️

Jumped in the @rewildingyouth minibus w/ @mattfratson @jfosterart + @fionacaley to plan future work with schools across the East Riding coast. Found big composite waste blocks and thought about marine radio, printing, and pewter casting! (missing @albert_longface + @rubydeverell on this trip but they’ll be working on this too!)

Screened @markfisherfilm at @groundgallery w/ @the.aimless.archive. Bringing pauses into the conversation, supplementing the film with footnotes and further reading. Thank you to those who joined us!

Played around with vertotype printing whilst the weather was good, exploring UFO documentation and collected photographs!

Got some nice prints!! Turned them into a set of 4 Japanese stitch bound books!! They’ll make an appearance at @hullprintfair soon!! 🦠

Went to Kilnsea sound mirror w/ @jfosterart to play with field recordings + record ourselves speaking into the mic - on the same mic pole that the original would’ve sat on! More to come!!

Support worker duties for @the.anna.log at Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw park for a super photography storytelling workshop delivered by @abbiejennings.co.uk 📸

The first meeting of a new commission with @heyvolunteering where I get to work alongside my good friend @_wesfoster_ to continue our I WILL MEET YOU HERE work. Lots more to be announced over the next 10 months!

Getting some printing in for upcoming @container.wks pamphlets, supported by @juicehull Print Residency!!

Very happily shared new work at @container.wks too!! @oceanloren Possibility of Tenderness opened last week, and is as gorgeous in the light as it is at dusk 🫖 Go and see it!!!

Went over to Manchester for @warnmcr Emergency 26! @rubyantonowiczbehnan + @ugly_society_lover with a beautiful sonic performance

Thoroughly been enjoying @pith_project colloquys, a writing group organised by @emily__fratson

Delivered some workshops too, and especially loved sharing and learning more about UFO archives and the evidence within them. Someone used to subscribe to FSR magazine, and I had by @alexanderstubbss

Excited to be sharing three sonic outcomes of work delivered with @artlinkhull learning groups over the summer on @rtm.fm 📻 The first 20 minute broadcast happens TODAY AT 3PM (‼️‼️) so tune in if you want to hear it live!

‘Some Radio Observations’ is built from field recordings and a live pirate FM broadcast made during a Streams workshop, @artlinkhull Artist Learning Programme. I’ve layered some of my own reading on top, to think about the kinds of fragmented observations that propel me in navigating the world. The title is adopted from Pauline Oliveros’ 1968 essay ‘Some Sound Observations’.

A big big thank you to @mattfratson for producing these workshops and inviting me in! ✨

🌬️ PREMIERE: ON THE WIND ARE ALL OUR VOICES

Tomorrow at 3PM, RTM.FM presents the premiere of On the Wind Are All Our Voices, a new work by Alex Stubbs @alexanderstubbss

A sonic wormhole filled with the clatter of workshop chaos.

Originally created through a series of workshops culminating in pirate radio broadcasts using micro-FM transmitters, these recordings are collected together as a series for the first time.

Harmonic and emotional differences reflect the distinct voices, experiments and acts of play spilling out from the speakers.

📻 PREMIERE ON RTM.FM
🗓️ Sunday 4 October
⏰ 3PM

Showing new work in the big big big summer party at @eprjcts alongside friends I admire and a raft of talented people!

E.T.E (Extra Terrestrial Evidence) was made whilst taking part in the @xordinarypeople The Studio, and as I was beginning to think more seriously about Ufology as a system of evidences and beliefs.

Summer Camp opens 4 September, 6–8pm and runs from 5 – 19 September. Tell your friends and neighbours! Everyone is welcome! taken in Eastside Projects by @alexanderstubbss

Perennial is about more than the work on the walls. It brings together artists from Wirksworth with those working further afield, creating opportunities to meet, exchange ideas and build relationships that continue beyond the exhibition.

E.T.E (Extra Terrestrial Evidence)
Photocopies, stickers, wooden board, glazing sheet
30x35cm
2026

I made this during @xordinarypeople STUDIO at @eprjcts. The studio closed at the end of July, and since then I’ve continued to explore this new language for archive making, and push further through Ufology archives to make sense of the way evidence presents itself in paranormal studies.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by for a studio visit and generously gave their time.

I’m now building this body of work out further, through publication-making, object-creating, and workshop-doing. by @alexanderstubbss

Preparation for tomorrow’s workshop with @artlinkhull Photography Explorers group, taking part in their Summer School programme for 12-16 year olds.

Constructing the publication as a place for all of the questions we have to be left on show. Using photocopies, scans, negatives, prints, and text to frame and reframe the photograph. Working together through looking, sequencing, printing, distributing.

Letting Serge Daney’s words guide my thinking: “Unidentified images are printed on the retina; unknown events happen fatally; spoken words become the secret code of an impossible self-knowledge.” by @alexanderstubbss

“I was quoted as a saucer believer.” Jung 🛸

I’m deep in the research, thinking beyond it, what could be and what already is. Work being put together, returning, flattening, teetering on the edge, connecting between our eyes and our ears. Becoming really, really fascinated and involved with UFOs, and how close the radio feels to it all. by @alexanderstubbss

Collective radio making for @artlinkhull @thecriticalfish learning programme, Streams.

Taking Pauline Oliveros’ text Some Sound Observations as the point from which to think about enscribing memories of sound through words. Using processes of redaction, elimination, filling in the blanks, and bringing the words back in again via the radio broadcast.

Some sound collecting happened, too. In pairs, a listener and a maker, equally weighting patience with action.

And then, to round things off, a live radio broadcast on FM, reaching listeners in both the eastern and western limits of the city.

Demonstrating the layering of collected sounds in real time; the microphone was an invitation to site our voices on and in the airwaves, which was taken up by the group.

Thank you @mattfratson + @howittjill for the invitation, and to the group for trusting in an unfamiliar and loud way through things. by @alexanderstubbss

Showing the fruits of my heatwave labour 🥵 at @digbethfirstfri next week in the @eprjcts @xordinarypeople STUDIO!!

I’m in the process of bringing together new work, 乇ㄒ匚 (乇乂ㄒ尺卂 ㄒ乇尺尺乇丂ㄒ尺丨卂ㄥ 匚ㄖ爪卩ㄖ丂丨ㄒ丨ㄖ几), working with UFO/UAP image archives, text documents, and plaster cast weights to understand what a non-directional archive might look like 👽

+ also throughout the evening I’ll be live broadcasting new work in the public bathroom through the phenomena of radio! So when you’re having a wee (and washing your hands!!! 😤) there will be something of the building, language, and WebSDR clippings to guide you through your bathroom journey.

Showing alongside the nicest studio pals @art.by.simran @mailies_fleming + @johepburnart who all have riches to share!
