The 2026 Glass Olympics have begun! We are thrilled to welcome students and faculty from Alfred University, Bowling Green State University, College of Creative Studies, Kent State, Ohio State University, Salem Community College (obviously), Tyler School of Art & Architecture, and University of Wisconsin - River Falls!

A big thank you to all for joining us - we are so happy to have you here!

Thank you Amy Lemaire, @alstudio_education, for the insightful presentation, “Where our Hands Come From”, a deep dive into the histories our contemporary flameworking landscape can be traced back to.

Rest in peace, Legend. Thanks for all you taught me about glass and beyond. Your generosity and care for this community were contagious, and we’re all better for having entered your orbit. You’re an inspiration.

Paul chose these pictures—they were our favorites of us. I can still hear him giggling, telling me that in one, he’s teaching me, and in the other, I’m teaching him. A true class act.

We’ll miss you, Paul. But your legacy lives on in all of us and in the community we built together. by @alstudio_education

What do SCC instructors do in the summer? They attend museum openings!

Last month, SCC instructors James LaBold and Amy Lemaire celebrated the opening of two exhibitions at the @artmuseumnb in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

James’s sculpture, Herculean Glitch – Missing Support, is featured in the Synergies exhibition, while Amy Lemaire’s collaborative sculptures with @nicolas_touron are included in Vanishing Ecologies.

Both exhibitions are on view throughout the summer, so if you’re in the New Bedford area, stop by and experience the work in person. We’re proud to see our faculty contributing to thoughtful and engaging exhibitions beyond the classroom.

Had a great week in the studio with the flameworkers at @pghglasscenter.

A huge thank you to all of my students for stepping outside your comfort zones and embracing new challenges, to the studio techs for generously sharing their knowledge and making every tool available to us, and to PGC for hosting such a fantastic class.

Special thanks to @imbackbo.glass for assisting all week and helping bring out the best in every one of us.

PLASMAFEST GAS 2026⚡️⚡️⚡️

Thanks so much to @handsonglassstudio and @dojoglass for hosting the latest installment of Plasmafest on Friday night.

This pop-up exhibition was hosted by students of @scc.glass.center and featured work by Salem students and alumni. We also welcomed many other makers in our extended plasma crew who thoughtfully packed bulbs in their cars and luggage to light up with us at GAS. It was great to see what you are all making!

Thanks to @kaylajamesglass and @esper_glassworks for organizing the event, and shout out to @coyote.hazing.field.guide @pyrokineticglass @jakethehuman.glass for the extra effort and care in helping everything go smooth.

Fun fact: the concept and title of PLASMAFEST was heavily inspired by PLASMARAMA, an influential workshop held at Penland in 1998 led by Sally Prasch (SCC Alumni), David Wilson and Jacob Fishman. This edition of Plasmafest came full circle in that history, as we were so lucky to have both David Wilson and Sally Prasch hanging out and lighting up work with us. Thanks @fordewilsonglass @praschsally and @jacobfishman2727 for planting those seeds.

Finally, the loudest shoutout goes to @scc.glass.center for wholeheartedly nurturing our growing plasma community. Thanks for all you do for us and for always showing up to cheer us on. #sccplasmacrew #communityisourmiddlename

Thanks so much @kaylajamesglass and @praschsally my collaborators for Community of Light- a plasma demo that we shared at @glassartsociety conference at @corningmuseum last week. It was so much fun spending the day making plasma together, and I’m honored to get to work with these amazing artists, technicians, and beautiful humans.

Major thanks to our @scc.glass.center community who were there supporting us every step of the way- from helping sculpt the glass hands that were sealed inside the vessel, to helping with the demo itself, documenting, relaying questions from the audience, and coming to the demo to cheer us on. Community is truly the best part of working with glass.

Thanks so much Harry and Jimmy from CMoG for your patience and assistance in the studio, thanks @roseglassart and @frostyglass for assisting with the demo and documentation, and thanks @jakethehuman.glass and all who helped answer questions and translate what was going on for the audience during the simulcast. Thanks to all at the @glassartsociety for letting us demo at the conference, we really appreciate the opportunity. Thanks so much!

The plasma vessels both came out great, but I don’t have good pictures yet. We’ll clean up the loose ends and get some proper photos of the finished pieces to share with you once we recover from conference exhaustion, so stay tuned!
