Today we capped off an incredible week in the flame shop with visiting artist @alstudio_education.

Amy Lemaire is based in Brooklyn NY. During her time in Kalamazoo, she led a 5-day advanced bead-making workshop for a group of our dedicated flame workers, and offered free demonstrations to our Journey Beads team as well as our crowd at First Friday Open Studios. Her knowledge, expertise, enthusiasm, and clear and concise teaching style was a pleasure to experience, and her visit has truly elevated our local glass community.

Give Amy a follow and check out her amazing work. We hope to have her back in Kalamazoo soon enough!

⚡️ The Arrival of the March Hare ⚡️

Across the turning of seasons, the hare emerges as a quiet emblem of renewal—of life stirring beneath the thaw. Yet the March Hare carries something wilder within it: a restless, electric spirit that flickers just beneath the surface. In this sculpture, that tension is held in suspension. The form is still, poised in a moment of watchful awareness, while inside, plasma arcs and dances—an unseen current of energy tracing the pulse of something untamed.

Echoing through the work is an older story, one shaped by frost and transformation. In the lore of Ostara (Eostre), a bird, frozen by winter’s grasp, is remade into a hare to survive. When spring returns, it offers brightly colored eggs in quiet gratitude—a gesture of resilience, of life reclaimed. That myth lingers here, in the meeting of light and form, where stillness holds motion, and what endures is not just survival, but renewal made visible.

Happy Easter 🌻🐇🪺🫶🏻

Thank you @alstudio_education and @roseglassart for your help with this plasma fill. Always a pleasure to create with you 🙏🏻

546 torr of neon argon mixture heavy on the argon. Using Illuminati/tungsten glass to metal seals as grounding pins to direct the path of plasma. Proof of concept.
