A brand new podcast with @gilesyeo and @rosestokes for anyone who's got no idea what they think about weight in 2026. OUT NOW!
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A thousand of you have followed our pod on Apple and Spotify so far. With 13 days until launch, we couldn't be more thrilled so it feels like time to introduce your hosts of @amatteroffatpod — two obesity experts in very different ways.

Second up is @gilesyeo a molecular neuroendocrinologist at The University of Cambridge and one of the world's leading experts on the science of obesity. TLDR: he has spent the best part of the past thirty years trying to understand why some people gain weight and some don't in the same environment.

He has written two incredible books, Gene Eating and Why Calories Don't Count, as well as hosting his own BBC pod series, The Hunger Games, and regularly featuring on TV and Radio on the subject of weight. A self-confessed "foodie" he says he plans what he is going to eat at each meal up to a week in advance (Rose has yet to actually test this). He feels passionately about removing weight stigma from healthcare, that obesity is not a choice and that improving the food environment is the best shot we have at improving the health of future generations.

What is the one thing he wants you all to know about this topic ahead of the pod launch on September 15th?

"Just because you are struggling with your weight, doesn't mean you are bad, or morally bereft, whatever society tells you. You are fighting your biology. You are finding it hard because your biology is making it hard. Give yourself a break."

We'd love you to join us over on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your pods by hitting that follow button! It makes a huge difference

A thousand of you have followed our pod on Apple and Spotify so far, with 13 days until launch, we couldn't be more thrilled so it feels like time to introduce your hosts of @amatteroffatpod — two obesity experts in very different ways.

First up is @rosestokes the expert of living with obesity. A women's health journalist and award-winning campaigner, she has spent the majority of her career to date trying to make complicated science about health and wellbeing more accessible to a wider audience. Not only has she lived most of her adult life in a bigger body, she has written a lot about issues related to weight stigma and its impact on health for most newspapers and media outlets over the past decade.

What is the one thing she wants you all to know about the pod?

That @amatteroffatpod is a shame-free, open conversation that combines wit with real, cutting-edge science; no stuffy conversations, neat 'solutions' or quick fixes and absolutely no one pretending to have it all figured out.

We'd love you to join us over on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your pods by hitting that follow button! It makes a huge difference

Has a relative ever commented on your weight?

Too fat, too thin, “you’ve filled out,” “are you eating?” — most people can name the exact sentence, and roughly how old they were.

Fat Check: is fatphobia real? Why people switch off the moment they hear the word, why it isn’t only about fat people, and why teenagers get the worst of it.

Out now wherever you get your pods, link in bio.

Have you ever caught yourself having fatphobic thoughts about another fat person?

I have. Regularly. And I say that as someone who makes a podcast arguing that fatphobia ruins lives.

Believing something doesn’t stop the reflex. It just means you notice it happening.

Now you can change your body, do you still have to love it? A new episode of @amatteroffatpod on what happened to body positivity is out now, link in bio. by @amatteroffatpod

Now you can change your body — do you still have to love it?

From Rose: All I ever really wanted was for fat people to be respected no matter their size, and for people to stop pretending they couldn’t be loved or beautiful because of the way we view fat bodies. That’s what body positivity meant to me, and it still does. I don’t have to resist a medication designed to help bodies like mine to prove it.

(Recorded in the summer, before Rose came off GLP1s)

The latest episode is OUT TODAY and is about body positivity — what it promised, and where it has landed now these drugs exist. Out now wherever you get your pods, links in bio. by @amatteroffatpod

Why do some people find it easier to resist the big yellow M? It's not because they're more better than you.

@gilesyeo on what's actually going on.

Are all calories created equal?

Giles on some of the complications of the whole calories in/calories out debate and why it is far from a perfect science.

The best thing I did this year was invite myself to something I hadn't been invited to.

Swipe for the whole story. Did I ever think I'd make a podcast? Nope. Am I glad I did? Yes! Would I like to be paid at some point? Also yes.

If you're sitting on something and you've decided you're too old, it too late or too busy for it: tell me what it is in the comments. I will almost certainly tell you to do it. by @amatteroffatpod

Why can some people just leave the biscuits?

You've probably been told it's willpower. Possibly by someone who meant it kindly.

Giles on what's actually going on, and why you're probably not resisting the same thing they are.

Feels a bit weird announcing this BUT...in the interest of transparency and because quite a few of you have asked: here's where I'm at.

If you've come off, or you're thinking about it, tell me how it went. It's the bit nobody writes about and I've spent weeks scrolling Reddit for other people's versions of it.

Keeping an audio diary I am hoping to share in season two of @amatteroffatpod — watch this space! 👀 by @amatteroffatpod
