One part of this book project that means a lot to me is that the proceeds support @railwaychildren.uk

๐Ÿ’š I really like that this project extends beyond our own profession.

As coaches, we spend a lot of time creating space for people to feel:
Seen
Heard
Supported as they navigate what comes next

Railway Children works with children and young people facing circumstances where those things can be much harder to access.

Iโ€™m glad that this book creates an opportunity for us to contribute, in a small way, to that work.

Something Iโ€™ve been thinking about lately: ๐˜ฝ๐™š๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™›๐™–๐™ข๐™ž๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™™๐™ค๐™š๐™จ๐™ฃโ€™๐™ฉ ๐™ข๐™š๐™–๐™ฃ ๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ช ๐™๐™–๐™ซ๐™š ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™™๐™ช๐™ง๐™š ๐™š๐™ซ๐™š๐™ง๐™ฎ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ.

*Neither does being a good friend
*Or a good colleague
*Or a caring person

Iโ€™ve spent years coaching people through boundaries.

And Iโ€™m learning, too.

A boundary isn't:

Itโ€™s: โ€œ๐™ƒ๐™š๐™ง๐™šโ€™๐™จ ๐™๐™ค๐™ฌ ๐™„โ€™๐™ข ๐™œ๐™ค๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™ฅ๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™˜๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š.โ€

Sometimes that means:
*Less time
*Less access
*Less explaining
*Not getting pulled into triangulation
*Not defending a decision over and over again

You can love someone and still say no.

You can understand someone's pain and still say, โ€œThat doesn't work for me.โ€

You can have compassion for someoneโ€™s history without making their history your responsibility.

And sometimes you don't need to JADE: Justify. Argue. Defend. Explain.

You can simply be clear.

A boundary isn't a punishment.

It can be an act of respect for yourself, and sometimes for the relationship.

I've always been curious about how people make sense of their experiences, challenge their assumptions and see things differently.

That's part of what drew me to contribute to

Writing my chapter gave me the chance to revisit coaching experiences that stayed with me and reflect on:

๐ŸŒฑ What I noticed
๐ŸŒฑ What I questioned
๐ŸŒฑ What became possible when coachees began to see things differently

I think that's one of the things I value most about coaching. The opportunity to slow down, look again and sometimes notice something that had been there all along.

I'm grateful to be contributing to this collection alongside 45 coaches and coaching professionals.

Looking forward to sharing more when the book is published in November ๐Ÿ“š

I've always said my dad was my live-in philosopher.

He had a way of making me think about life, not by giving me answers, but by asking the questions that stayed with me.

Over the years, I've developed my own philosophy:

For me, that means:

๐ŸŒฑ Designing my life rather than waiting for life to happen to me
๐Ÿงญ Knowing what matters to me, and being willing to make choices accordingly
๐Ÿšซ Having the courage to say no to what doesn't fit, even when it would be easier to say yes
๐Ÿ’— Making room for the people, relationships and experiences that make life meaningful
โœจ Continuing to grow without constantly feeling like I need to become someone else
๐ŸŒŠ Accepting that truly living life fully includes grief, uncertainty, change and hard things

I think my dad gave me something important:

Now, years into adulthood, I realize that's probably the greatest philosophy I could have inherited.

I think I'll keep aiming for that, for the rest of my life โ€ฆ ๐Ÿ’— by @ami.auyeung

This year has held a lot.

๐ŸŒˆ Losing my dad
โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน A serious stroke in the family
๐Ÿง  Navigating dementia and the uncertainty that comes with it
๐Ÿš— Deciding to cancel a road trip with Mylo

And thereโ€™s been joy, too.

๐ŸŒŠ A trip to the Azores
๐Ÿถ Time with Ed and Mylo
๐Ÿฅฐ Laughter with our nieces

Life hasnโ€™t exactly been neat or predictable.

Iโ€™m learning that resilience isnโ€™t always about pushing through. Sometimes itโ€™s about changing the plan, simplifying things, and being present for the people you love.

Sometimes that looks like sitting around a table, having a drink and a good conversation, even when life around you is complicated.

Iโ€™ve been thinking a lot about how grief and joy can co-exist. We donโ€™t have to choose between them.

I think thereโ€™s something similar in coaching. Leaders can carry a lot and still have hopes, ambitions, curiosity and moments of joy.

Thereโ€™s room for all of it.

We often assume that capable leaders need more knowledge, more confidence or another strategy.

But sometimes the harder work is quieter. It may be:

๐ŸŒŠ Navigating expectations
๐ŸŒŠ Questioning yourself
๐ŸŒŠ Figuring out how to lead in a way that still feels like you

That's some of the work that happens in the coaching room.

14 years of partnership has taught me something Iโ€™ve always believed:

โœจ A meaningful partnership is about finding someone willing to grow alongside you

Over the years, Ed and I have moved through different seasons together.

๐Ÿƒ Some have asked more from one of us than the other
๐Ÿƒ Others have required us to adjust, let go, or look at things from a different perspective

What has helped us navigate those seasons?

โœจ Staying curious about each other
โœจ Willing to keep learning
โœจ Asking questions instead of making assumptions

The longer weโ€™ve shared this life, the more I believe that partnership is about creating the space for us to keep growing, changing, and becoming who we are, while continuing to choose each other along the way.

Grateful for this life weโ€™re building together, Edwin @nutfreedoodles ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿ“š Iโ€™m excited to finally share something Iโ€™ve been working on.

Earlier this year, I submitted a chapter proposal for โ€œSecrets from Within the Coaching Roomโ€. When I learned it had been accepted, I was excited, not just because Iโ€™d be part of a book, but because it gave me the opportunity to write about a pattern Iโ€™ve witnessed time and again in coaching.

Some of the most capable leaders Iโ€™ve worked with arenโ€™t held back by a lack of knowledge or experience. Theyโ€™re navigating competing expectations, carrying responsibilities that others donโ€™t always see, and quietly questioning whether they can trust themselves without compromising who they are.

Iโ€™m honoured to be one of over 40 coaches and researchers contributing to this book, which brings together evidence-based coaching research, real coaching conversations, and practical reflection questions for leaders, individuals and HR professionals.

๐ŸŽ—๏ธ Even better, every penny of proceeds goes to Railway Children @railwaychildren.uk , supporting children living on the streets in the UK, India and Tanzania.

๐ŸŽฏ This week, we officially submitted the manuscript to the publisher; a milestone that makes this project feel very real

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Iโ€™m looking forward to sharing more as we get closer to its November release

Iโ€™ve noticed the same thing coming up in several coaching conversations this month.

Different industries, roles, and challenges

Yet they all arrived saying some version of, โ€œI think I need another tool.โ€

As we talked, it became clear that another tool wasnโ€™t what they needed.

What was getting in the way wasnโ€™t a lack of frameworks, strategies, or resources. It was trusting what they already knew. Their:

Strengths
Courage
Experience

The harder part wasnโ€™t finding the answer. It was quieting the inner critic long enough to hear it.

Sometimes we spend so much effort looking outside ourselves that we forget to listen to whatโ€™s already within.

๐Ÿ’ซ Where in your life are you looking for another answer, when what you really need is to trust the one you already have?

Iโ€™ve been noticing how hard it is to sit with uncertaintyโ€ฆ even when I know what I need to do.

I can:
โœจ practice mindfulness
โœจ journal
โœจ move my body
โœจ remind myself to come back to the present moment

And yet

The mind still wants answers. It wants:

๐Ÿง  timelines
๐Ÿง  reassurance
๐Ÿง  to know how the story ends

Recently, I was speaking with someone navigating a major organizational restructuring. They shared something that stayed with me:

*They can only control what they can control*

They can:
Advocate for themselves
Have thoughtful conversations
Make their intentions known

And then there is the part that belongs to others.

The decisions
The timing
The outcome

What I appreciated was their choice to still take their planned vacation.

Not because they didnโ€™t care.

Because they recognized that caring for themselves mattered too.

They had done their part. Now, they had to trust others to do theirs.

Maybe thatโ€™s the practice. Not pretending uncertainty doesnโ€™t exist.

Not forcing ourselves to feel calm when we donโ€™tโ€ฆ but learning how to stay grounded while we wait.

Because sometimes the hardest part isnโ€™t knowing what to do.

Itโ€™s accepting what isnโ€™t ours to decide.

๐Ÿ’— Where are you practicing letting go of control while still showing up fully?

The water was so clear it felt like it was holding two realities at once.

๐Ÿž Above itโ€ฆ trees, stretched and dancing
๐Ÿž Below itโ€ฆ rocks, steady, and resting

I found myself lingering there longer than expected.

It made me think about how quickly we trust what sits on the surface.

๐Ÿ” What we notice first
๐Ÿ” What feels most familiar
๐Ÿ” What our mind fills in before weโ€™ve really looked

Sometimes thatโ€™s accurate. Other times, itโ€™s just the reflection doing its job.

In coaching conversations, Iโ€™m often reminded that the shift rarely comes from adding something new. It comes from noticing whatโ€™s already there, but not yet seen.

A different assumption
A quieter narrative running underneath
โ€ข A blind spot thatโ€™s been in plain sight
A question that changes the angle entirely

Lately, Iโ€™ve been less interested in โ€œanswersโ€
and more curious about what becomes visible when we pause long enough to look again.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Whatโ€™s something youโ€™ve recently seen differently when you stayed with it a little longer?

The truth is... I think Iโ€™ve been surrounded by coaching my entire life.

This little girl had two people in her corner long before she understood what leadership, careers, or coaching even meant.

My parents didnโ€™t call themselves coaches, they:
Asked thoughtful questions
Encouraged curiosity
Modelled resilience

They taught me to see people with compassion, to stay grounded in my values, and to keep learning... even when life became complicated.

Looking back, I realize they werenโ€™t just raising me.

They were shaping how I would eventually lead.

Today, as I support leaders navigating complexity, change, and uncertainty, I often find myself drawing on lessons that began around our family table decades ago.

๐Ÿ’— Who helped you see differently?
๐Ÿ’— For me, it was my parents.
