A site-responsive sculptural coat woven over the course of March @casa_yali . Japanese ramie and mulberry paper are woven between lines of grey wool, becoming caught, looped, and felted into place. Venetian glass beads mark moments of breakage. Plain weave shifts into bird’s-eye twill during evening hours at the loom, prompted by birdsong outside the studio. Part of the installed show now on @casa_yali @yaliglass curated by @marina____marques , each coat is a manifestation and recording of accumulated presence. One of a kind piece, woven on site from handspun merino wool, Japanese bast fibers, and antique Murano glass beads. by @amyrevier

A scent sealed forever, briefly released through fire.

Inspired by the protective blend @amyrevier created for her textile works and cedar bonfires in Texas, the burning paper editions offer an ephemeral experience of the scent held inside the unguentaria in Attunement.

Included with each unguentarium and exhibition publication, it reveals the recipe behind the scent.

To be kept as an object, or experienced through its disappearance.

At the origin of Attunement is the Colombina di Rovasenda, an ancient Roman bird-shaped glass vessel dating to the first century AD, preserved at the Museo di Antichità in Turin.

Bird-shaped unguentaria were used to contain scented substances and are often associated with funerary rituals. Their contents could be released by breaking the narrow glass tail, an irreversible gesture that transformed the vessel and its contents.

What makes the Colombina di Rovasenda particularly remarkable is the survival of traces of its original contents, offering a rare opportunity to investigate an ancient fragrance preserved for nearly two millennia.

For Attunement, the Museo di Antichità in Turin generously shared previously unpublished documentation of the scientific examinations carried out on the vessel to investigate its contents and identify the fragrant substances.

These archival materials, together with the ancient object itself, became an important point of departure for Revier’s research, informing her series of hand-blown glass birds, each containing a sealed fragrance that can only be experienced by breaking its tail.

Part of this research is brought together in the publication accompanying Attunement, connecting archaeological evidence and curatorial framework. by @amyrevier

Huge honour to return to JAIPUR & begin January 2027 with @wonderfulworkshopsjaipur for a one week (Jan 3 - 10 2027) doubleweave book course with participants, guiding them through a sculptural approach to weaving, amongst wonderful company and in a magical setting. Online bookings live now on @wonderfulworkshopsjaipur website (link in bio)

The woven book becomes both an object and a metaphor—a textile memory vessel that records not only visual impressions but also a felt sense of place. It invites participants to engage with Jaipur through the lens of material, rhythm, and attention, and to respond with their hands, eyes, and intuition. This project holds its essence in the spiritual and deeply human resonance of weaving, and its power to contain, carry, and transform. It also highlights how woven textiles can take the form of a more sculptural object, coexisting with other materialities. by @amyrevier

ATTUNEMENT

For What Falls Between Part I, 2026
Burnt silver fir bird box, single-channel digital video with sound
11 sec., presented on a five-minute loop
20,5x30x21 cm

During her residency at the @amacademyrome Amy Revier noticed that crows were using the roof of her studio to crack open walnuts. She began responding to their presence by leaving walnuts for them and collecting the broken shells they left behind.

Brought with her to Venice, these fragments became molds for a series of small pewter sculptures, cast during her residency at CASA YALI.

The work reflects an idea that runs throughout Attunement: listening in dialogue with making. Rather than imposing a predetermined form, Revier’s practice begins by paying attention to what is already happening around her, allowing accident, chance and unpredictability to enter the process as co-creative forces.

DM or email us for more informations about the work.

Attunement marks Amy Revier’s first work in glass, developed during her residency at CASA YALI with the support of the @nancygravesfoundation Artist Grant 2025–26.

Hand-blown in Murano, the glass birds take their form from ancient Roman bird-shaped unguentaria: vessels made to contain scented oils and associated with funerary rituals.

Each bird holds a sealed fragrance. Like their ancient counterparts, the scent remains inaccessible unless the vessel is broken at the tail — turning the object into both a container and the possibility of an irreversible gesture.

The artist and weaver Amy Revier who lives in Venice's Dorsoduro district, shares her favourite spots in the city for art, food, design and more.

@amyrevier: “I always start the morning with a coffee at Cafe Rosso, and stop off at the San Barnaba floating fruit and vegetable boat near Campo Santa Margarita, which brings in the freshest produce from Sant’Erasmo, before walking across the Ponte dell’Accademia bridge to my gallery, Yali, in San Marco."

In the lead-up to Attunement, a few traces from Amy Revier’s ongoing research started during her time at @amacademyrome

Ancient objects, woven structures, glass, scent, gestures of preservation and protection — references gathered over time and across different places, gradually finding their way into the work. Attunement emerges through these encounters and correspondences: between materials and their ancient genealogy.

“If you can look across the distance without wanting to close it up, if you can own your longing in the same way that you own the beauty of that blue that can never be possessed… ‘Longing and desire’ says the poet Robert Hass, ‘are full of endless distances.’ Blue is the color of longing for the distances you never arrive in, for the blue world.”
