Attunement (Music Field Coat), 2026

This piece is a study on the coat as a remnant of two acts — as a kind of recording device — sitting somewhere between Rome and Venice, carrying traces of two years of building work in Italy within a single sculptural coat.

The exterior silk textile was woven last year in Rome and remained for months as a kind of scroll or mysterious field upon the studio table — a piece I did not yet fully know what to do with. Later, it found its counterpart and was married to an interior cashmere ‘drawing’ woven this year in Venice during a live performance with the experimental harpist and composer Andrea Vecchiato @avecchiatoooo for @casa_yali . As Andrea played, I wove in response, attempting to translate something immaterial into material form.

The piece was woven from material developed through new relationships I’ve made over the last two years in Biella, with sixth-generation Italian silk and cashmere mills, spinning and dyeing sculptural multi-ply threads for me to build with. Marrying two pieces from a specific place and time, waiting sometimes a year or so until they find each other, is something I hope to continue with. Currently installed @casa_yali @yaliglass in Venice

continuing research on net making / new images of a recently finished handwoven series in London. Netto (What Remains After Deductions) is an installation of layered, interchangeable woven textiles, conceived around the symbolism of a net. Nets were historically used to obtain sustenance and nourishment, to sift, filter, and preserve what was deemed valuable. Crafted collectively from humble plant fibers, they represented an open, porous, and transparent system of threads tied together by hand.

Over time, the simple net has evolved into a more complex and often opaque system, evident in concepts like the internet, networks, and financial metrics such as net worth, net profit, and net gain. The panels installed in this home aim to open a dialogue on this evolution of the net, its dual nature of open/closed, rigid/adaptable, to catch/to keep/to filter/to release. Each weaving was intuitively made from hand grown, hand-tied bast fibers: ramie, kudzu, pina, mulberry, hemp, & stainless steel. It’s a difficult one to photograph, and it changes with the light, time of day, seasons, and how the panels are layered or separated.
