I chose an industry that has been responsible for both shaping culture and exploiting it. Creativity and commerce will always be intertwined, and I’m not naive to the fact that the same tools we use to inspire, connect, and influence can just as easily be used to manipulate, deceive, or take more from the world than they give. But I also believe that in the right hands, those same tools can do incredible things for representation, for culture, and for helping people see themselves and the world differently. Being an ADColor FUTURE, surrounded by people with different cultures and lived experiences, but the same amount of heart for what we do, reminded me how much it matters who gets to be in the room.

My family immigrated from Mexico City to Austin when I was seven, and some of my earliest memories of creativity and entrepreneurship come from watching my parents build a business from what they had. I don’t take it lightly that I now get to sit in rooms like these, bringing that story and perspective with me.
