Thought I'd smoosh together a little reel of my A Printmaker's Bestiary linocut series for your enjoyment while we recover from Christmas excesses - if indeed, you indulged. I did. I think there is such a thing as a 'food hangover ', I'm feeling proper gippy!

Watch a few days carving squished into a couple of happy minutes. Lots of random mad hair spiders creeping into shot, some cat action and brews to spice up your viewing pleasure!

There were waaayyy more brews taken than the one's shown here. Hmmm.... perhaps that's why I don't sleep?! Just a thought! Haha!

This'll be another two layer linocut, hence random shots of drawn out vinyl. Test prints will follow as soon as time allows, but first I need to print an order for the lovelies at @foldedorset

It's Friday, friends - and yes, I did, in fact, have to ask Mr P what day it was today. Pffffftttt!

I leave you with four off the cuff painting/drawings made across this week in response to the magic of the crop patterns on The Down and the autumal light and colour. It fair makes my heart flutter, it does! As ever, artistic liberties have been taken with real landscape. These are for feels, not reals!

At some point, I will gather my wits to make these into (probably) linocuts.

Here is the finished drawing 'They Dare Speak Not of She' likely to become a black and white linocut.

There's much work being done in the folk community now around reclaiming female narratives in folklore tradition. A lot of the stories we get to hear cast women as victims or virginal prizes to be won or rescued by some handsome swain, or we learn about the bitter and twisted harridan who exacts revenge on the innocent with evil intent and witchcraft. It has often overlooked the warrior women, the wise, clever women, the powerful leaders who inspired great loyalty in their followers - they feature in few relatively 'modern' retellings, (fairytales have a lot to answer for here, although, don't get me wrong, I still hold a fondness for the stories of my childhood).

So, with all that in mind, I have plans for a linocut of this wing'd beauty. I have chosen a panther/cat as they are often symbolically linked with femininity, (think Egyptian gods here), and because of the plethora of 'big cat in the wild' sightings, many of which happen on the stretch of the A4 that cuts through Savernake Forest near to where I live. I feel that they are similar to a Black Shuck story in many ways or could be in the retelling. Big cats are fierce. They are strong, little seen, mysterious, and inspire awe, much like the forgotten women of folktale. The oak leaves in the background and corners represent longevity, wisdom, insight, and divine knowledge. I have freely lifted that symbolism from paganism and druidic ritual. The stars represent the North Star, a guiding light by which we navigate our world and the lines and vines that thread through the composition, reflect the re-weaving of historical tellings of folklore.

And if you have read my waffle this far, get yourself a brew n a biscuit. You deserve it, my friend!

Still here, still drawing this wing'd puss in between printing 20 metres of fabric for an order and, you know, life stuff.

Fearsome Beastie is a possible future work. My head has not decided where it wants to go just yet. There's a few creative fancies jostling for attention in there, making a bit of mental chaos as they go. Little tinkers. Hopefully, they will stop fighting soon and form an orderly queue, and things will be made as if by magic!

Back in the studio after the excitement of yesterday in that there London. I have a much needed quiet day ahead scribbling about with this badass gal. She's just a seed of an idea around folk and the feminine (and randomly, big cat sightings in the UK). This comes off the back of some excellent recent publications on the subject. I'm looking at you, Kim Willis. Who else has No Fair Maidens on their reading pile?

Ink & stitch resistance. No Al, just hands, hearts and minds following the long human tradition of joy in the making.

I shall wear this as a symbol of my resistance to the stealing of work, of jobs, of tradition and identity for the sake of capitalist greed.
