I wonder how many households are cooking with red cabbage this week after picking up a bag of free veg at the Feeding the 5000 event. I made an old recipe that reminds me of my mum and winter dinners.

Went to church today. Actually, several. Lots of old churches were open to visit, unusually or because they always are open. This is just a few of six I happened to go in. (Also, the day included happening upon the food waste & sustainability event at the Forum, and I came away full of samosa & curry, and a bag full of free veg.) And then later I did a set of my own songs at @merchantshousenorwich that seemed to go down well. by @bridget.mck

⚡️ SPARK #52: Navigating the Earth Crisis with Bridget McKenzie
🗓️ Saturday 7th November, 12:30-3:30
🏛️Manchester Museum
🔗 Booking link in bio

A participatory workshop with Climate Museum co-founder Bridget McKenzie to help you navigate the future as impacts of the Earth Crisis unfold.

The Earth Crisis is more than just Climate - it’s the combination of ecological overshoot and social shortfall. Working with four lenses - Global, Ecological, Local, and Social – we’ll use props and prompts to help us visualise future scenarios. The approach to imagining the future will be Possitopian: expanding our imagination to the widest range of possibilities and facing the trouble we’re in while finding energy for activation. You will be guided to visualise a direction of travel for your life and work, supported by a compass tool offering new regenerative practices.

Looking back to the port we set out from, the present day, we will create personal talismans using scrap and natural materials while discussing how we might grow capacities in areas such as collaboration, place-based resilience or ecological kinship.

@bridget.mck is an artist and regenerative thought leader working to engage people with the Earth Crisis. Her career includes being Tate’s Education Manager and the British Library’s Head of Learning. In 2006, she founded Flow Associates, a research consultancy in cultural learning. In the past decade, she has focused on the intersection of culture and environment, and has developed training, collectives and campaigns pushing at the radical edges of this field. This includes founding @climatemuseumuk, a creative collective putting the Earth Crisis in context, and Earth Talk, a community of practice for Earth Literacy. She co-founded Culture Declares, a movement of cultural workers declaring a planetary emergency. She experiments with creative activism in her city of Norwich.

Watching the demolition of Gildengate House, former home of many artists in Outpost Studios. All that weird and interesting thinking and making that went on in those concrete spaces…. by @bridget.mck

A bit of culture at @anterosarts - including the @norfolkcontemporaryartsociety show, and a delightful and interactive folk history show about the Fens, Lincoln cathedral, the commons, Hereward the Wake, Saint Guthlac’s sister Pega, and more. Plus also nice Japanese-inspired ceramics at @mandellsgallery by @bridget.mck

Finally got to see the Living By The Rule show at @sainsburycentre with only 3 days before it ends. It was fascinating. An admirable meeting of the challenge of finding contemporary artists exploring some of these themes. But visually I was most drawn to the old manuscripts and carvings. by @bridget.mck

So much fungus burgeoning from so many dry and fallen birches and other trees on Mousehold Heath. And, I made a little leafy bird body to add to a bird-head stone. by @bridget.mck
