Consistency.

I speak on this every single week to my athletes.

No matter the weight.
No matter the circumstances.
Be consistent.

If you treat practice reps like they are meaningless or monotonous because it isn’t heavy, the movement and intensity you bring to the PR weights will be completely different than your entire warm up.

Weightlifting is a sport of building your portfolio of repetitions. Take the time to refine and perfect your movements so you can rely on this portfolio when attempting PRs.

In this video, you can see multiple lifts at different weights. Some were PR attempts, others weren’t. Some were routine numbers, others weren’t. The thing is, I bring as close to the same form and technique in each lift regardless of what’s on the bar.

If you want to work towards perfecting your movement, make sure you join me at @innrstrength this Saturday from 9am-10:30am for my Clean & Jerk seminar! I had so much fun instructing last week and can’t wait to see you all again in a few days!

Although the clean and jerk was my forte as a lifter, I’ve always held a special place in my heart for the snatch.

It’s complex.
It’s frustrating.
It’s even a little scary at times.

It requires perfect movements, perfect sequencing, and perfect execution.

With over 13 years of coaching experience, I’ve found a suffice way to break down the complexity of this lift into manageable chunks to make it easier to understand. More confidence is created with more thorough understanding of the physics behind the lift. Once we understand “the why” behind the movements, we can better adjust your current faults and even figure out your current capabilities to create a path towards perfection.

If you’re looking to get a better understanding of this lift or even if you want some more practice reps under a watchful eye, join me this Saturday from 9:00am-10:30am @innrstrength!

Big lifts and good vibes!

Olympic lifting is all about pursing perfection on every rep. It’ll never happen but the more you work at it, the closer you will get. You’ll never reach true perfection so you become obsessed with the pursuit. Doing everything in your power to improve your technique, your speed, your strength, your coordination just enough to add one more kilo to the bar.

It’s extremely frustrating but oh so rewarding!

Listening to new thought processes, trying new techniques, finding different positions - it’s all imperative to your understanding of the lifts and finding the right way to lift for YOU.

I’ll be hosting another two part Olympic Weightlifting Series @innrstrength on Saturday, August 23rd for the Snatch and Saturday, August 30th for the Clean & Jerk. This is open to all local athletes, members of @innrstrength or not.

If you’re looking to improve, these clinics are for you!

When writing the Little Lifters series, I used the world that surrounding me for so many years as inspiration. I have been coaching in some capacity for over 20-years.

I’ve coached ice hockey, softball, Olympic weightlifting, CrossFit. I’ve personal trained, taught group classes. l’ve numerous taken certifications and courses to arm me with the knowledge I need to serve my community.

No matter what I was coaching, it all came down to teaching the athlete how to move within their body and within its current capacities.

Little Lifters: Learn Anatomy is my attempt to start teaching proper muscular and skeletal anatomy to kids. Sure Heads, shoulders, knees, and toes has a great tune but Traps, biceps, delts, and quads is just way more educational! 💪

🥙 SOLID60 Nutrition Challenge 💪

As a gym own and lifelong athlete one of the most under-appreciated and misunderstood pieces of the fitness puzzle is nutrition. There is so much noise in the world of food that things get overwhelming and confusing really quick.

Bottom line is it’s easy to go to the gym an hour or two every day and get your workout in. It’s extremely hard to stay balanced and disciplined the rest of the day when it comes to fueling your body right.

The SOLID60 is a take on the ever-popular Hard75 Challenge but makes things a little more attainable. It’s the perfect way to get yourself back on track to making healthier decisions and is phenomenal for anyone just wanting to learn more about how to fuel their body.

There are 7 Daily Habits you’re responsible for each day:
1. 60mins of exercise 🏋️‍♀️
2. 15mins of outdoor exposure ☀️
3. Drink 3 Liters of Water 💧
4. 15mins of self-growth 🧠
5. 7000 steps 👟
6. Track your Macros 🍗
7. No alcohol 🍻

Miss a day or need a day off? No problem, log what you can and aim to be better tomorrow. Just like real life.

Since this challenge is App-Based, you can join from anywhere in the world to help hold yourself accountable!

We start Monday, August 11th cause there’s no time but the present to be better for yourself. @aliannludwig will be leading the crew at the Annex and I’ve got the Tucson crew at 244!

Being a great athlete incorporates more than just being good at your sport.

Your ability to move is more important than any one individual sport specific skill. In today’s world of sport, we are beginning to see sport specialization earlier and earlier. The more an athlete focuses on one sport, the less patterns of movement the athlete is asked to perform. Or if we think of it from a different perspective, the more repetitions of the same movements the athlete is performing if they specialize.

For example: if we have a baseball player playing year round baseball from age 7-18. They are throwing and rotating constantly - in practice, in games, in showcases, in clinics. Most the time these athletes will be performing similar patterns in the gym as well but overloaded with weight or even at higher velocities. That’s 11 years of the same movements over and over again.

Compare this to an athlete who plays baseball, hockey, and soccer. This athlete is asked to perform many different movements and patterns from sport to sport. Their shoulders don’t get overused from throwing. Their groins don’t get overused from skating, their knees don’t get overused from cutting on turf.

The more patterns of movement our bodies are able to replicate, the less likely we are to stumble upon overuse injuries.

In this video, you can see hockey players ages 7-12. Almost all of the kids only focus on hockey. This was my first day training them so in their defense, they didn’t have a chance to practice these movements. You can see the lack of balance and coordination on the ground even though they move great on the ice.

I try to teach my athletes to be athletic in all pursuits, not just great at one! by @chogan25

🛑 STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING✋
Take the next 5mins to dedicate to testing your mobility capabilities courtesy of @jointjacked

You may think you’re flexible but does all that space have strength components too??

There’s only one way to find out!

Give these ISO-Movement pathways a test. If you cramp, you’ve found yourself a potential soft tissue issue in the making!

Let me know how it goes!

I was always an active child.

I started walking at 9months.
Vaulted out of crib at 16months.
Learned to skate at age 2.
Learned to ride a 2-wheel bike at age 3.

I’m sure my parents had a tough time slowing me down but I was always encouraged to do my best and told I could do anything I set my mind to. Even though I physically could not get on my bike because I was too short, my dad made me a “Launching pad” (a small wood box that they brought everywhere along with my bike) to allow me to independently get on my two wheeler.

Saying “I can’t” was never in my, or my parent’s, vocabulary. Before I would attempt anything scary, my nerves were pushed aside by chanting “I think I can. I think I can I think I can.” And I did. I have accomplished many feats in my life by simply telling myself that anything is possible if you work hard and give your 100% true best effort.

In writing @_littlelifters, I knew I wanted to pass along this mentality to the next generation. In Little Lifters Learn Self-confidence, I take the reader and their child through an array of affirmations to teach kids and parents alike, there is nothing you can’t achieve if you truly believe in yourself.

I am so proud of this book series and this next adventure in my life. I hope you enjoy reading them as much I enjoyed writing them! by @chogan25

SNATCHES: Part 2 of my Olympic Lifting Clinic @two_forty_four

The snatch requires the upmost mobility. The perfect technique. Spectacular timing. And a little bit of guts.

I often see the snatch taught too quickly and all in one movement. Breaking down the lift into manageable chunks is the only way you begin to fully understand what is supposed to be happening at what times.

If you are looking to clean up your technique, get some practice reps in, or simply looking for some fresh cuing. I HIGHLY suggest you head over to the link in my bio and reserve a spot for yourself.

See you tomorrow at 10:30am!

When I first opened @annextraining, I had no idea a big inspiration would come years later. As our gym family grew, so did their families. I started seeing babies who were crawling across the turf turn into toddlers copying squats and high fives. Fit parents were raising fit kids, and I wanted to give them something more—something meaningful, fun, and movement-driven right from day one.

So I created it! What started off as a simple poem in my notes, turned into a fun, fit-focused book series.

📚 Little Lifters is for the youngest generation of movers—books that make health, movement, and confidence fun, silly, and smart.

From movement patterns and the ABCs of exercise to anatomy and self-belief—these books are my love letter to the community that raised me, supported me, and grew alongside me. And now … we’re raising the next generation together.

🔤 Little Lifters: Learn the ABCs
A fitness-forward twist on the classic alphabet book! From “A is for Abs” to “Z is for Zottman Curls,” this book teaches young readers movement-based vocabulary while encouraging daily activity. It’s the perfect way to blend early literacy with physical literacy.

🧠 Little Lifters: Learn Anatomy
This book helps kids learn about the incredible parts of their body—from muscles and bones to lungs and the heart. It makes anatomy fun and approachable by showing how each part helps them play, move, and grow strong every day.

💪 Little Lifters: Learn Self-Confidence
This is the heart of the series. Here, kids learn about believing in themselves, trying hard things, and celebrating progress—not perfection. With positive affirmations and empowering messages, it helps young readers grow a strong inner voice to match their strong body.

🤸Little Lifters: Learn Movement
This book introduces foundational movement patterns every child should know—like squatting, lunging, crawling, and jumping. Through fun prompts and playful illustrations, kids explore how their body moves in space, building coordination, strength, and confidence with every page.
