One more week to catch the final instalment of the ‘Faces and Threads’ project. This show brings together 6months of community activity and places it alongside the ceramic work of Parham Ghalamdar and paintings of Lone Sorensen.

The show looks at issues around Climate Change and several other not entirely unrelated issues that emerged over the course of the project. taken in BasementArtsProject by @chrisbailkoski

♠️♦️Faces and Threads❤️♣️
An exhibition in four parts:

Part Three~
SNUG at Crowcroft Park
Launches 24th July

Faces and Threads is a community arts project taking place in Longsight, Manchester and Beeston, Leeds. Led by Dr Lone Sorensen in collaboration with artist Parham Ghalamdar, the project has transformed climate misinformation into large Tarot-inspired banners.

Residents in each city were invited to respond to social media content about climate change, adding to these banners and capturing the emotions, experiences, and voices of these communities.

These voices have turned the banners into a form of protest and displaying them outside during one of the hottest summers on record highlights the urgent need for climate justice.

The artwork here was presented at Longsight Art Space between 10th-23rd July and visitors are invited to paint onto these banners this evening. Music tonight is provided by Fossil Heads 🎶🎼🎵

‘The Sea Is Always Right’ consists of three neon signs, part of an open series that brings to light the devastating storm surge of 30 January 1607 on the north Norfolk coast. Each simplified graphic icon is a fragment of a crisp woodcut from that year, found in a Renaissance book in the Norfolk Heritage Centre.
The neon sign – the classic, seductive visual branding tool that usually tempts us with mass consumption – is now used to invite reflection on our Norfolk past, present and future.

Wighton 26 ‘undercurrent’ is an exhibition currently on in north Norfolk, and is on until August the 2nd. It represents more than 60 artists, predominantly from the area itself, and touches a broad spectrum of undercurrents within society, ecology and geographically. I am extremely happy to be part of it with my work. Feel welcome in the tranquil habitat of Wighton All Saint church. Daily open from 10am to 5pm, there’s wheelchair access, also dogs (and cats!) are welcome, and hey prams too. There’s a ‘shop section’ too, with browsers and cards and smaller artworks. Also much worth is to visit the opposite studio and house of the late American painter Alfred Cohen. And only then, after this all, you are allowed to visit the wonderful hyper tidal beach of Wells Next The Sea, a ten minutes drive down the road

Wighton26 is initiated by North Norfolk Exhibition Project @northnorfolkexhibitionproject and curated by Chris Bailkoski @chrisbailkoski .Location / SatNav Kirkgate Lane Wighton norwich, NR23 1AL

Credits and thanks to @cottageprinting and @angeliquefronicke, as well as Norfolk Heritage Centre, and also Planet Neon.

An exhibition in four parts:

Part two~
Longsight Art Space
Launches 10th July

Faces and Threads is a community arts project taking place in Longsight, Manchester and Beeston, Leeds. Led by Dr Lone Sorensen in collaboration with artist Parham Ghalamdar, the project has transformed climate misinformation into large Tarot-inspired banners.

Residents in each city were invited to respond to social media content about climate change, adding to these banners and capturing the emotions, experiences, and voices of these communities.

These voices have turned the banners into a form of protest and displaying them outside during one of the hottest summers on record highlights the urgent need for climate justice.

For the exhibition at Longsight Art Space, we will also present artist films exploring the issues faced by marginalised communities and invite continued conversations with residents over the coming weeks of the exhibition.

The banners here will be presented at SNUG on 24th July.

Faces and Threads
An exhibition in four parts:

Part one ~
On The Corner Pocket Sculpture Park
Basement Arts Space
Launches 9th July

Faces and Threads is a community arts project taking place in Beeston, Leeds and Longsight, Manchester.

Over the coming months, the banners will be exposed to this extreme weather and we will see changes to these works over time. We wonder what will be obscured and revealed in these banners between heat and rain; day and night; sun and moon?

The artwork here will be presented inside Basement Arts Project from 1st September.

Announcing Hannelore Smith as Curator’s Choice for 𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓬𝓾𝓻𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓽 and recipient of the inaugural Alfred Cohen Art Prize! 🏆

Hannelore’s sculptures suggest the many industrial communication towers around Norfolk and are activated by radio broadcasts as audience members move around All Saints Church. Bringing together many different themes within 𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓬𝓾𝓻𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓽, I was particularly struck by the aesthetic and aural qualities within these artworks. They create an intimate yet immersive experience within the wider exhibition space 🙌

Generously supported by Alfred Cohen Museum and awarded at the School House Gallery on Wednesday (image 3 curtesy of and ©️ @eastangliaartfund )

Thank you to all artists in 𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓬𝓾𝓻𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓽

The exhibition is open 10am-5pm daily until 2nd August

Part of my ambition for 𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓬𝓾𝓻𝓻𝓮𝓷𝓽 was to have space for artists working in artforms not usually displayed in such a rural setting and for conversations around difficult political contexts.

On Saturday we hosted a thought provoking conversation with Prue Dobinson around her time working in Palestine as an orpthoptist, her recent painting practice and her collection of Palestinian garments (images 1-5)

Also yesterday, Sophie Marritt presented a sound walk around the grounds of All Saints churchyard. Sophie amplified sounds of birds, leafcutters, shrimp and other creatures we would otherwise not be able to hear (images 6-8)

And on the opening, we had a special multi-media performance of Asteroidia by Aether Collective. The performance incorporated many diverse elements (spoken word, bio-sound, projection, live stream drawing, music) into a cohesive, immersive experience.

Aether Collective are Jillian Bain Christie (Soprano), Cat Jones (Bio Sonic Sounds), María Pavledis (Líve drawing) Marian Saunders (Live projection), Dave Farmer (production). Joined for this performance by Hugh Lupton (Storyteller) and Nick Appleton (guitar)
(Images 9-12)

A huge thanks to each of these artists 🙌
