🧭COMPASS: Cromer 🔊

Announcing the final part of our year long COMPASS project, which concludes in Cromer from 12th November. Over the past year, COMPASS has connected artists Emma Illingworth and Margaret O’Brien (both Greater Manchester based) with Kimberley Foster and Jane Scobie (both Norfolk based) through residencies at Cromer Artspace and Rogue Artist Studios. The exhibition will bring together the artworks created over the past year during these residencies.  Please join us for the opening of the exhibition on 12th November from 5:30pm.   On 14th November from 12:30pm we will host an afternoon of talks, a tour of COMPASS exhibition, and interventions. These interventions have been kindly supported by the East Anglia Art Fund. The event is free to attend and should finish by 5pm.   Access: Cromer Artspace on the Prom is fully wheelchair accessible. There are Blue Badge parking space along the promenade, with a short walk to the venue.   Travel Bursaries: We have a limited number of travel bursaries (£12.50) available for both the opening on 12th November and the talks and interventions on 14th November.

Faces and Threads - a participatory arts research project exploring how marginalised communities feel about online climate debates - returns for its last exhibition opening on Tuesday 1st of September (5.30pm to 8pm) @basementartsproject

Led by @lonesorensen93 the exhibition brings together the experience of the entire project into a narrative about how intersecting existential crises affect the climate debate and will include the screening of five experimental film screenings as well as the exhibition launch (that you will then be able to catch until Sunday 4th of October).

✦ The Shared Cloth: Napkin Making Workshop
With Hannaa Hamdache
3:30pm – 5:30pm

Craft your own napkin using drawing, stitching and felt, guided by multi-disciplinary artist Hannaa Hamdache. Through conversation about food, culture and memory, you will transform cultural motifs and symbols into something entirely your own and then bring it to the table.

As the sun goes down over the Orchard Garden, we come together for The Longsight Table, a community dinner to close Our Longsight Festival '26. This year we are sharing Daal & Chawal, with desserts by the wonderful @sipsanddips.

One long table. One neighbourhood. One meal.

The Longsight Table is supported by Westhill Endowment Fund and Manchester City Council. The Shared Cloth workshop is supported by The Arab British Centre's As We Are, Might Have Been and Could Be programme.

We are kicking off Our Longsight Festival '26 with an evening at Longsight Art Space that we think you'll want to be part of. Two events. One neighbourhood. Come for one, stay for both.

✦ Workshop: A Map of Attention

Longsight has been described through headlines and statistics for decades. This workshop asks a different question: what does this place look and feel like to the people who actually live here? Using found images, collage and mapping, Hana will guide you through creating a new map of Longsight. One made by us, for us. The workshop is supported by @arabbritishcentre

✦ Documentary Premiere: The Northmoor Neighbourhood

From the brick factory workers who built these streets in the 1920s, to 46 different first languages spoken in a single local school, to the young people who call Crowcroft Park their own. This film is a portrait of Longsight told entirely in its own words. The film has been made in partnership between @reelmanchester and @greatplaceshousing

This year's theme is People & Place. How do the people shape the place we live in? And how does that place shape us in return? Whether it's a family's story of how they came to arrive here in Manchester, the street you grew up on, or the way this neighbourhood has changed over time. This year is a celebration of the people and places that make Longsight, and Manchester, what it is today.

Over the coming weeks we'll be introducing the organisations, artists, performers and activities joining us for the weekend. Watch this space.
