🌱 Planning a gardening or landscaping project? Get free mulch and compost on September 26!

Oxnard residents and businesses can pick up FREE compost and mulch on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Del Norte Recycling & Transfer Station (111 S. Del Norte Blvd.). Each customer may receive up to ¼ cubic yard—about ten 5-gallon buckets—while supplies last.

Bring your own shovel, containers, and proof of residency or business location, such as an ID or utility bill. Need more? The City of Oxnard and Agromin provide free compost and mulch year-round.

Los residentes y negocios de Oxnard pueden recoger compost y mantillo GRATIS el sábado 26 de septiembre de 2026, de 8 a. m. a 2 p. m., en la Estación de Reciclaje y Transferencia Del Norte (111 S. Take a look at spaces in our Pre-K Experience classroom! 📚

We’re proud to welcome a new group of young learners to the Pre-K Experience, where our youngest community members have a place to learn, grow and thrive. Designed for children ages 4 and 5 as they prepare for kindergarten, the program offers a small classroom setting with plenty of one-on-one attention.

Students take part in traditional learning alongside hands-on experiences, including science activities, field trips, special guests and holiday celebrations.

The program is led by Mrs. Eloise and Ms. April, who each bring more than 20 years of experience to the classroom and a hands-on approach to helping young learners grow.

NEWS RELEASE: Oxnard Fire Chief Alexander Hamilton Announces Retirement; Battalion Chief John Albin Appointed Next Fire Chief

OXNARD, Calif. – Oxnard Fire Chief Alexander Hamilton announced today that following 21 years of service in Oxnard, he will retire on November 19, 2026. As part of the department’s leadership transition, City Manager Alexander Nguyen is appointing Battalion Chief John Albin as the department’s next Fire Chief.

“Even before Alex became Oxnard's Fire Chief, he was bringing innovation to the department, especially for increased awareness around cancer-causing conditions and prevention, and mental health and suicide prevention care for public safety personnel,” said Nguyen. “As Oxnard's Chief, one of his highlights is advocating for the creation of Oxnard's EMS Corps program, which will serve our community for generations to come.”

Albin brings over three decades of fire service experience to the role, including 28 years with the Oxnard Fire Department. He joined the department as a firefighter in 1998 and rose through the ranks, promoting from Firefighter to Fire Engineer in 2002, Fire Captain in 2011 and Battalion Chief in 2025, when he was selected to establish and lead the department's newly created Support Services Division, which manages fleet, facilities, technology, logistics, purchasing, and peer support.

Since 2013, Albin has helped build and lead the department's Peer Support Program, and serves as a statewide Subject Matter Expert on firefighter peer-based suicide awareness. He is also a member of the department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team and has commanded crews on the Maria, Mountain, and Palisades incidents. He previously served in leadership roles in the Oxnard Firefighters Association. Albin holds a bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from UC Santa Barbara and completed the California Fire Chiefs Association Fire Chiefs Academy in 2026.

This past weekend, staff from the City of Oxnard’s City Corps Team and Parks Division joined community volunteers at Via Marina Park for a Meet Up Clean Up!

Together, they picked up litter and debris, and gave the signage posts a fresh coat of paint—helping keep the park clean, maintained and ready for the community to enjoy. 🌳✨🧹
