Thank you to @fedellalizeth for capturing my spirit so beautifully, I knew I could trust you bc you know me and see me ♒️♌️

I wanted to honor myself thru my creations at this new stage because they are a reflection of the people and places who came before me, and a dedication to those who will come after. To archive is to keep myself sacred and honor what I’ve been through and how it’s gotten me to where I am. I am grateful to those who love me and hold me up thru everything 💖 And to myself for continuing to trust in myself even when it gets hard ༄
Everything I do continues to be a reflection of my community, for the ones I love and for myself🌀 taken in San Diego, California by @corazon.de.melon8

Clips from my first short-film on Testimonios from UC Davis students on ICE raids across California.

This started as a project for a community-based participatory research class where we interviewed an elder in this work of fighting for rights of undocumented students at Davis. My group and I decided to take it further and gather testimonios from students themselves on how these raids have affected our educational journey, our families, the towns we’re from and our understanding of ourselves.

The videos I used are from my hometown SD, CDMX, Pal3stin4 and Davis. Because I wanted to focus on how our struggles are interconnected globally—never just concentrated in one area or for one population.

The raids are a result of racist policies, of colonial borders and various psychological processes that still exist within many of us today. The end is a reflection on how hope is necessary for us to continue fighting. ++resources for students on campus!

This film was dedicated to undoing, unlearning, and disrupting, even within institutions. 🫀 Con corazón by @corazon.de.melon8

بنين🌹

Part I - Baneen

For this flower series, I chose to represent Baneen with roses because they are symbols of devotion, love, passion, blood, and the heart 🫀

A reminder that vulnerability and feeling is not weakness, it’s strength in a world that makes forgetting our feelings so rewarding. She is a vessel of love. Intensity that protects with the power to destroy and create all over again.

This series is meant to remind us that the natural world is our greatest teacher, that it is alive just as much as we are. And that our beauty is rooted in our ancestors, even if that’s the plants or the land that never abandoned us. Roses teach us lessons about how to return to the hearts we abandon.
