What happens when you stop waiting for permission and start making things happen yourself?

In this episode of Creatively Eccentric, I’m joined by Ross Martin @drawanddeliver a freelance illustrator, designer and animator — for a conversation about finding your own creative lane, trusting your instincts and resisting the pressure to become what the creative industry expects you to be.

His creative journey was the shift from focusing solely on finished products to valuing the creative process itself. He highlighted his background in animation, which requires patience and a love for the process. “The joy of creating is in the process,”

We also get into animation, storytelling and world-building — and why leaving some things unresolved can give the audience space to bring their own interpretation to the work.

I made some postcard-themed business cards ✨

I'm leaning more into creating physical ways to display my work, and why not have a bit of fun with a tried and tested (though perhaps tired) form of info exchange?

Some would say that business cards are fairly outdated now, with less and less use for them in this digital age, but I think they're just underutilised.

Have fun with it and make it your own I say!

A couple Fridays ago I had my first crack at hosting a Creative Mornings event.

It's fair to say I was pretty nervous, not having done anything like it before, especially in front of a group of people!

I had the pleasure of introducing my good friend Duncan as the speaker, who gave us all such an incredible, insightful talk about his motivations and past projects.

Playful, not perfect. 🏈

That was my aim when creating these illustrations.

I’ve always been inspired by sports logos from the 80’s/90’s. So much heart and personality went into those designs, long before many over-simplified, super clean sports logos of now.

With the NFL season starting tonight (technically tomorrow morning for us) here’s my take on some American football logos, each created for the members in my Fantasy Football league.

Some feel old, others feel new, but I’ll let you decide on that 🫡

The Kickstarter is a wrap! 🩵🍕

Thank you all who have supported the campaign in some way or another. To all the backers who helped get the funding over the line, to those who simply shared a couple of posts - you all mean the world to me!

We ended the funding at 119% of its goal, which is beyond my expectations - I'm absolutely elated 🕺🏻

This is a bit of a belated post seeing as the Kickstarter ended on Saturday, but fancied a bit of a break from the month-long promotion. Really takes it out of you!

The next steps will be fulfilling all the very generous pledges you guys have made. I've got to wait around two weeks to receive the money raised, and then I'll be putting in the orders for all the tasty rewards.

I'll make sure to keep you lot updated throughout these next stages, so keep an eye out for further updates.

I'm so excited for you all to play my game, it'll just be a bit of a wait before that happens.
