Do it scared.

If I had to choose my biggest take away from my first 50k, that would be it — whatever your big, scary, slightly delusional goal is — do it scared.

The timing is never going to be perfect.
You may never feel totally prepared.
But I’ve come to realize, that’s all part of the journey.
It’s you vs you.
You vs your fears and your doubts.

Goals *should* be so big that they scare us. Pushing outside of our comfort zone is quite literally the point. It’s why we choose to spend hours in the woods saying “I’m never doing this again” only to flip the script the next day to “I wonder what else I can do…”

time and time again it seems my proudest moments and fondest memories start with the decision to push past the doubts, trust myself, and do it scared.

highly recommend ditching the racing strategy if you aren’t feeling it and running on vibes + high fives instead

type 2 fun at its finest ⛰️✌🏼⚡️🌟

my first race in the Catskills kept it spicy with 5,000+ ft over 25k, Climb It For Climate packed a punch in the very best way (just ask my quads 😮‍💨)

an absolute banger of a weekend climbing mountains with the running fam, thanks for always bringing the vibes and the vert @therunningkind_

tri-ing new things is cool 🫧🤸‍♀️🚲💫👟💥

joined the triathlon club with my first Olympic distance this weekend!

I felt surprisingly calm going into the swim. Aside from the typical pre race nerves, I wasn’t too concerned about being in open water / swimming in a race environment — a huge jump from my usual laps at the pool — I probably enjoyed the swim the most out of the entire race! I knew I would be comfortable with the distance because I’d done it many times in training, but I quickly realized my pacing can use some work. I definitely got caught up in the start hype and went out fast, but once I settled in and got the hang of sighting, this leg of the day felt fun and flowy.

I knew going in that the bike would be my weakest link, and that was certainly the case. My only goal was to not crash (lol) but considering I just learned how to use clips a week ago… fair. Mission accomplished, crash free 🙌 but there is a lot of room for growth here. Gaining confidence and speed on the bike will be a big point of focus moving forward.

The run was my strongest portion (shocking, I know)
I’d been running regularly in training, but truthfully I hadn’t put any thought into the run part of the race before I was sitting in transition changing my shoes… I let my legs take the lead and muscle memory followed. I fueled often, cheered for other athletes and was able to hold a solid pace with a strong finish.

Overall, I really had so much fun with this! I especially enjoyed racing with my husband, my cousin and a friend - seeing them all throughout the course was such a fun boost!

Being a beginner can definitely feel intimidating, but I loved pushing myself out of my comfort zone and diving in with curiosity.
Here’s to trying new things + doing more shit that scares us 🤙🏼 by @gailgoesrunning

these photos make me emotional because they capture so much of what running means to me and why it is so deeply important.

love, joy, support, belief, friendship, excitement, challenge, overcoming, teamwork, connection, community, empowerment — it’s all here.

@therunningkind_ thank you for creating a space that feels like home.

@ekoh_friendly you are truly a storyteller. these are incredible, thank you.

four months ago I did a group run on a section of this course… immediately after I turned to my husband and said “there’s no way I could do it this year”

I’d had the itch to do a 50k for a while, and knew I wanted it to be this one, but I had a stack of reasons why I felt like I couldn’t.

it’s too technical…
there’s so much elevation…
I haven’t been trail running long enough…
I’ve never even run that long before…

I’m not sure what made me change my mind, but a week after that run, I registered.

I worked hard for this.
I pushed myself in ways that I haven’t before.
More importantly, I learned what it means to bet on myself, even when the doubts felt overwhelming — because of that, I can now proudly say: I’m an ultramarathoner ✨
