Every tattoo on my body helps tell my story: who I am, the things + people I love, and my experiences. I also love the way getting a tattoo feels and the grounding feeling that comes with being present for every sensation. To now have Apo Whang-Od’s signature on my body means so much to me. She’s the oldest tattoo artist in the world, starting as a teenager, and at the time was the only female mambabatok. Apo is an intuitive artist + healer, and shares her art as a way to preserve history and celebrate our culture. But what I also love about her is the way she shares with those around her, teaching others her ways as a way to keep this precious artform alive. And for her to be 106, touching lives by doing what she loves, is #hashtagGOALS! This experience will forever leave an imprint in my heart (and chest 😉) Super salamat, Apo Whang-Od! The cherry on top was sharing a sweet moment with her. As I patiently waited for my turn, I heard she liked my #pekpek earrings so I knew I wanted to gift them to her during my session. maarte (muh-ART-eh, adj.): a Tagalog word that can mean artsy, extra, dramatic or “too much.” Growing up in a Filipino household, founder @hashtag.pretty heard this word A LOT. It may have been the time (the 80’s) or the tone (from her mom and alllll the Titas), but being called maarte was less than pleasant. Fast forward to 2026– it is a badge of honor, and in fact… we now wear it in every color. Plus, putting that name on a door in downtown Fresno is a declaration: our language belongs here, our creativity belongs here and we belong here, in ALL our maarte layers 🎀 This Filipino American History Month, we’re reclaiming maarte while making space for our community to be creative, expressive, and fully ourselves IN EVERY COLOR 🌈 Were you called maarte, too? It’s rare for us to get a date night, especially with an out of town trip… but we were SO EXCITED to finally make our way to @chicano_nuevo in San Francisco this weekend! @chef.analicia’s cousin, Abraham, and his wife have been working so hard over the past several years to bring this vision to life— and a couple of months ago, they officially opened! EVERY course was thoughtfully created, with flavor, culture + sourcing prioritized. And we were treated to an introduction from Chef himself every time he presented a new plate. To hear the intention behind it all made the experience that much more delicious. For us, seeing the way they worked as a team was the cherry on top of the exquisite evening. We are so proud and inspired! These pictures do not do the plates justice, and plsssss do not ask us what our favorites are. Everything was BOMB. However, I (@hashtag.pretty) will say… if I were surprised with blue corn cake for my birthday, I would be the happppiest girl in the world 😉 Congratulations Abraham + Courtney! EVERY weekend leading up to @filfiesta559… join us for special events that remind us of our heritage or allow us to enjoy Filipino artistry ✨ Our first FAHM event of the month is Art Hop tonight, where local Filipina artist @wizmangooo is showcasing her brilliant work. While here, pls also show some love to @artofracquelle + @jubelrollinglumpiaandbbq! This weekend, we will be treated to a special traditional dance lesson by our friends with @kapayapaandance 💃🏻🪩 Whether you identify as a dancer or not— we hope you can make it; the lesson will be more than following steps. If Duchess could talk, Im certain this is the birthday pawty she would have asked for 🩷🐶 With help from some of her VIPs (verrrry important pups) and humans, we got together for this sweet queen. Everyone had delicious food— cupcakes and treats by @bentleys_barkery, @menedspizzeria pepperoni 🍕 since @chef.analicia calls her ‘ducheroni pepperoni’.
