This post is for my Mom. The incredible QUEEN who sacrificed 6 years away from her husband, family and home to live alone in a cabin in the middle of the woods. Mom moved to WA to take care of Grandma D who had fallen ill with dementia, bless her soul. Anyone who has been a caregiver or knows someone with dementia knows how incredibly difficult and heartbreaking of a disease it is. One’s health, both mind and body, deteriorates rapidly and for the last several years of Grandma’s life she was bed ridden and in hospice, but to the doctors amazement she stayed alive and healthy for so long because of the love and care my Mom gave her.

For SIX YEARS my Mom missed nearly everything…parties, family reunions, baby lūʻau, anniversaries, family trips, travel, seeing my first home, meeting my dogs, my last four fights—even was about to miss mine and Jason’s wedding before we cancelled it because of the pandemic…she missed everything without a complaint because it was her duty and honor to take care of her Mother until the very end.

Yesterday she got to come back home for good and my beautiful family rolled out the red carpet for her and Grandma’s return. I wish I could have been there to celebrate this woman. THANK YOU, Mom, for showing us what true sacrifice, honor and unconditional love looks like. We love you so much and are so relieved you are finally home in Dad’s arms ❤️ by @ilimanator

KŪPUNA ʻĀINA ✨ Trailer Release
Hawaiʻi, The Land Remembers

Global Film Premiere + Live Online Gathering with Hawaiʻi Elders, Healers and Leaders

Before there were maps, there were ancestors. Before there was history, there was a longing: a collective breath carried across the ocean, calling Hawaiʻi into being. A love for the land, and a desire to belong to it.

For generations, this sacred relationship between people and ʻāina (land) has endured through colonization, the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893, the suppression of language and cultural practices, and the dispossession of ancestral lands.

Yet the land remembers. And so do its people.

Kūpuna ʻĀina takes us beyond the postcard images of Hawaiʻi, into the living heartbeat of its people and their ancestral home.

Through the voices of kūpuna (elders), cultural practitioners, healers, and younger generations, the film follows a profound journey of remembrance: reclaiming ancestral rhythms, revitalizing language, restoring relationships with the land, and transforming generations of historical pain into pathways of healing and cultural resurgence.

This is a story of a love that has outlasted empire. Of a people whose belonging cannot be erased. And of kuleana, the sacred responsibility to care for the land, honor the ancestors, and protect the living future of generations yet to come.

A reminder that healing does not always mean moving beyond our wounds, but sometimes finding our way through them, guided by the wisdom of the land that has held us all along.

Our sunshine through the storm ☀️

Today would have been her due date, but she arrived a week early on the floor of our home with just us two and our amazing midwife, Dr. Lori, who arrived just in time to catch her. Of course her stubborn Aries Maddah neva like call cause she wasn’t sure if she was in active labor or just being a weenie 😂, but thank goodness for her calm Scorpio Faddah for holding it down and making sure we were okay.

Thank you to the most amazing birthing team Dr. Lori, Lokai and Kau’i and our Ka Lāhui o ka Pō hui for preparing us for this chapter and helping us bring our beautiful pēpē earthside. Thank you to all of our family and friends who’ve been so supportive of our little family. But biggest thank you to my other half, Ka’eo, for making me a Mommy and going all in on this crazy ride. Who would have thought that when I asked you over beers if you’d be down to be a sperm donor (lol) that we’d bring the most perfect baby girl into the world 💛 #SunnyDays by @ilimanator

Now the sun is shining, everything is gonna be nice ☀️ #LeoSzn
