At this time of year it can be easy to get caught up in all the things you want to change or "manifest" into your life.

That is an important aspect of this dreamtime visioning part of the year. Allow these noticings to surface like bubbles from the depths, and don't forget to also pop your head above the water for a moment and notice what's 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 here.

Where you are is where you are. Don't forget to notice that you built this space, however it looks, from doing the best you could with what you had.

You may now be reflecting on what you might be able to do differently in the coming months to change things for the better, and that's great.

But send a love note to the you that did all they could with what they had. And notice the little gifts that are all around you. Even that courage, determination and strength are born of yesterday's efforts.

Whatever gifts are surrounding you, may it be as simple as the aliveness of the body, the ability to dream or the ease of breath 𝗼𝗿 as big as a supportive community, alignment of vision and action or having space to reflect - don't forget to notice, and dwell in gratitude.

Those dreams you have need the sweet nectar of gratitude to be able to grow and prosper.

They need to be assured they will be truly appreciated.

When we appreciate in the present we set up all the conditions to appreciate in the future. When we practice gratitude in the here and now we are sowing the seeds of gratitude in the future.

What are you grateful for today? What attitudes, attributes, values do you hold that you appreciate? What surrounds you that brings value?

If you're feeling brave and want to inspire others why not share in the comments?

Much love

Save this for moments when you might feel stuck in endless scrolling or your mind feels stuck in unhelpful thinking.

Taking your eyes to something pleasant is a quick resource that can help bring comfort and ease, next link this with awareness of the breath to come home to your body (which scrolling or ruminating often brings us out of)

For an added extra try lengthening your exhale, this sends signals to the body that you are safe and at ease.

Looking forward to sharing more on finding resourse where you are with the @thehappymap Joy Scouts community as we jouney through 2025 together ❤️

I have had the absolute honour of being asked to talk about mindfulness with the @thehappymap Joy Scouts community in just over a weeks time.

This quote by Thich Nhat Hanh offers so much wisdom into mindfulness.

The practice of noticing.
The practice of really being here, now
The practice of leaving judgement behind

Happiness isn't ready made, it doesn't drop in your lap from the sky, it doesn't arrive one day in the post. It is actually all around us if we could only notice.

Sometimes it's subtle, sometimes it's big.

Mindfulness allows us to practice noticing, and allows us to drop some of the harsh judgement and criticism that can often be the barrier to seeing what's going well right now.

Take a minute to go inward and notice, what's it like to be your right now?
No judgements, just list what you notice.
Then ask yourself, what do I need to best take care of myself?
It might be as simple as some reassuring words, giving yourself a hug or putting down your phone.

"Inner landscapes are powerfully shaped by the outer" is a quote by Edward Thomas from this book "The Old Ways"

As I have been walking some truly ancient paths this week and soaking in some vast landscapes, I have felt the power and truth of this simple quote.

What our eyes take in inevitably generates thinking, new ideas, new connections, different approaches. Our inner world has opportunity to reorganise when we step into a different place.

It's a simple truth but a profound one.

When we feel "stuck in a rut" or can't find a "way out" of a thought or situation these phrases already suggest the medicine.

Put on a waterproof, jump over a sty, through a gate, step off your beaten track and seek a new vista. Give your eyes a new path and notice how your inner world transforms. taken in Peak District National Park by @inner_anchor

For anyone that needs it during this coming week. 💚

I felt shy to post this, but it's such a small thing that has made a big difference to me, that I thought it might just be useful to someone else.

I've been finding this a very useful resourse to use in the classroom when I'm teaching (I've also done it with my whole class so that we are all taking a regulating sigh together)

When moments get tough, sometimes a big sigh can create just enough space to make new choices or see new paths.

Much love x

When you realize that joy
is less fireworks,
more firefly,
less orchestra,
more birdsong,
she will come back much more often.

For joy will not fight
with the fast pace of this life.
She is not in the shiny or the new.
She breathes in the basic,
shimmers in the simple,
and dances in the daily to and fro.

Joy has been beckoning you
for many a year, my friend.
You were just too busy doing to see.

The very next time joy wraps
her quiet warmth around you,
as the garden embraces your weary body
in its wildness,
tip her a nod.

You cannot force her to stay,
but if you are a gracious host,
joy comes back.

'Joy Comes Back' by Donna Ashworth @donnaashworthwords

This is an invitation to step into the day noticing those small joys that can so easily and so often go by unnoticed.

The flight of birds overhead, the sound of the wind through the trees, the way the light streams through the window, a stranger holding a door as you walk through... it's the so called small joys that make up a joyful life.

What moment of joy have you noticed right now, today or this week so far?
Leave it in the comments below and build a little joy bank. by @inner_anchor

Our culture can be so loud and bombarding.

In the "real world" we are continually facing the words, desires, and actions of our family, the friends we have surrounded ourselves with, our work environment, and the culture at large.

In the "virtual world" we are faced with the netflix series' we watch, the constant steams of social media- even the tirade of wellness "advice", the lyrics of songs.... its endless.

So endless that it can be hard to differentiate what is "my voice" and what is theirs.

How do you tap into your own voice? The voice of the truest you, the one who yearns to create, to do the thing, that desires from the heart.

When we find it hard to hear our own voice which is unsurprising in such a loud world, we can fall out of balance, have a feeling that "life has us" and that we are not the authors of our choices.

We may fall into the wrong pack and never quite feel a sense of belonging.

We may feel unfulfilled and find meaning or cheep joy in the wrong places.

We may hop from idea to idea, scheming and planning, focusing on the future, when things will be "better"

We may put others first, do what others want, be the follower and the pleaser.

It's only when we can find our own unique howl, and the courage and boldness to howl it, that our true pack can hear.
And we need a pack. Just as much as we need to hear our true self's voice, our true self's yearnings, our true self's needs. The exchange is needed, it's part of life, to feel a call from within, send it out and be received.

The wolf calls in order to be heard by the pack.

The flowers blossom to be seen by the bees.

It all starts by hearing your own voice and begining to make your own choices, not based on what will make others more comfortable or at ease.

I could go on, perhaps I'll write a blog post 🤣

But let's start with the questions:

How are you, really?
What do you need right now, really?

You don't need to act on it but take the step to ask, and really listen.

Come, uncertainty, sit by my side,
Come, despair, drink from my cup,
Come, fear, do not be afraid of me,
I will not turn away from you,
I will not deny you a place at this table,
Now that I know the truth of myself

For a moment can you welcome in that difficult emotion or thought and hear its deeper call? by @inner_anchor
