I don’t think I have ever done this, but allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jacque and I am a matcha enthusiast turned tea educator and business owner with a special affinity with Japanese teas.

I was a regular coffee and tea consumer, also because my mom worked in the same industry and I was exposed early on. During the pandemic, I had no choice but to figure out how to make drinks myself since we were all required to stay indoors.

Since then I have tried my best to build relationships with people in the tea industry — tea equipment artisans, tea enthusiasts, farmers, suppliers, and business owners all over the world. Our casual conversations as well as having a small but meaningful experience on the field has helped me in my journey.

In my pursuit to learn more about my tea, I was introduced to Chado, the “Way of Tea” or more commonly known as the Japanese Tea Ceremony. There I learned that it goes beyond a cup of matcha, it gives emphasis on mindfulness and conducting oneself. There are principles we follow and they are: Harmony, Respect, Purity, and Tranquility. These are things that I always, always abide by in my practice in and out of the tearoom.

Apart from that, I have taken formal education through avenues that are available to me like the GJTA and the ITMA, both of which I continue to do until today. The goal is to continue to educate myself because tea will always be a journey, and I hope I get to help others in theirs too.

Ultimately, I’m someone who loves matcha and tea and it is something that I always love to share and talk about, but never ever in a negative light. I may be a tea educator, but more so, I am a matcha advocate — may that be the tea itself, the culture, the people, but most of all, the community. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific - January-February 2026 ✨

Last October, the Editor of the magazine reached out to me for a feature in their upcoming issue, he asked me to share about Jacque and Matcha for their “Personal Branding” section and I COULDN’T BELIEVE IT!

They saw stories online from Manila and those articles were the jump off point (I think). So I want to thank all of you for your support — thank you for joining my workshops, trying out my matcha whether through pop-ups or retail, and for following me on my socials. It means a lot to me to be able to share about what I am most passionate about. 🙇🏻‍♀️

I was a little shy to post this and it took me a month to do so?? Hehe. I’m just mindblown. Like wow, an international publication!!! 😭🤯

One of the many things we love about our 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗮 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 with @jacqueandmatcha_ is how it brings together tea enthusiasts from different parts of the country. Thank you to all for making this workshop a part of your weekend itinerary.

@kalsadacoffee Café Weekend to celebrate International Coffee Day ☕️

Local coffees sourced and co-produced by Kalsada, roasted by local roasters (@hometowncafeph is one of them!), brewed by lica.valdez and Maine Magno. Plus a signature drink using cascara with pineapple soaked in honey and a dash of Ilocos vinegar!

Sweets were by @derya.goods using ingredients from their neighbor @ritualph 👌🏼

Ice is an ingredient 🧊

I used clear cocktail ice for my bar takeover at @yardstickcoffee Aguirre, @coffeeplz.world, and @purveyrfair. Was it easy? Not really! Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? I would love to think so!

We wanted to use clear ice because 1. To show that ice has value and is not just a filler. 2. To elevate your matcha experience even in a pop-up setting which means we make sure that the ice doesn’t melt as fast and that it looks good. 3. We’re just a little obsessed because we have @barhometownph too 😅

Clear ice differs from standard ice because the former uses water with fewer minerals and it goes through vertical slow freezing which pushes out bubbles and remaining impurities. The size is based off of the size of the cup and the ratio of the drink to make sure there is less surface area exposed to the liquid. All of these factors contribute to the slower, even dilution and the taste of your beverage.
