Some cultivars just leave a lasting impression 🙇🏻‍♀️

I first tried Kirari 31 as usucha at Matcha Later, and I fell in love with it from the very first sip. Since they don’t offer this particular cultivar in powder form, I started looking for somewhere I could get my hands on one. So when I spotted this on Ms. Jacque’s corner in Hometown Café QC, it was an instant purchase. No hesitation whatsoever!!

Now, I can’t wait to revisit the cultivar that first caught my heart, this time in the comfort of my own matcha ritual 🥹 Kirari 31, the love child of Sakimidori & Saemidori 🍵

For the first night of BaNOWe, guests gathered at HOMEBASE Garage for a Lauriat dining experience crafted in collaboration with @nownow.ph, paired with a course-by-course drink lineup curated by @barhometownph and @jacqueandmatcha_.

The evening also featured a floral installation by @paraluman.world, made specially for the event, and the NowNow edition of the HOMEBASE x @_badstudent zine, shared with diners ahead of its official launch.

Reservations are now closed. BaNOWe runs until tomorrow, October 22 at HOMEBASE.

My usual POV every time we host a #matcha workshop with @jacqueandmatcha_. Always on the side, front, and behind the matcha queen, capturing moments while in awe of her passion for the craft which goes far beyond whisking and tasting, as well as her respect for the community, tradition, and farmers.

This workshop series has brought together enthusiasts from different parts of the country, from different walks of life. We just had class no. 12 yesterday and more are in the pipeline. Immensely grateful for the trust and partnership.

On another note, I just got the green light confirming gluten-free ways I can enjoy this drink. 💡🍵

A car-free Sunday along Ayala feat. an errand with sidequests: #KapeCon2026, where I got to try @jacqueandmatcha_'s matcha on tap (with taste notes of edamame and roasted nori, wow); walked around ATG for the steps; said hello to cute community cats (was that Madame Cece?), all in an hour🚶🏻‍♀️

Kape Con 2026 took over Paseo de Roxas this past weekend for two packed days of Philippine coffee culture ☕️

Organised by @coffeehomebrewers (CHB), the country’s largest grassroots coffee community, the convention brought 48 coffee merchant booths, insightful talks and wild barista showdowns straight to the heart of Makati.

We made the rounds through standout brews and innovative creations across the street—from @papakape’s cold brew saba con yelo to @jacqueandmatcha_’s Midnight Matcha, crafted with an Oreo-like syrup. We also checked out signature drinks from @elunion, @satori.mnl and CHB founder Rosario Juan’s @communeph. Flaky pastries from @butterboyph, smash burgers from @hungryhomiesph and fresh slices from @gattoslice were the perfect bites to end our coffee crawl.

Over at the KapeCon Lounge, we took in eye-opening panel discussions like ‘More than a bean: real stories from the farmers shaping Philippine coffee’ and ‘Brewsapan’, a live Q&A session with the Discord coffee community, before catching the ‘Latte art Twosome Throwdown’ barista competition.

Overall, the weekend was a celebration of community and craftsmanship, proving that the Philippine specialty coffee scene is stronger than ever.

KapeCon 2026!

Di masyado nakapag pitik medyo masikip kasi at maulan ulan din.

Pero ang saya kasi ang ganda na ng community ng kape dito sa Pilipinas. Ang sasarap ng kape, ang gagaling ng mga roasters. Saludo po ako sa inyo 🫡

Ang saya din na makita ang mga coffee people from the south at ang mga roasters na madalas kong kinukuhanan ng beans.
