Sandman knows how to use the medicines in his apothecary, but he is not a medic. He is not skilled with medical jutsu and does not rely on it. Instead, he understands practical treatment, such as which herbs reduce pain, which salves help wounds close, and how to prevent infection. His knowledge comes from experience, not formal training. He has learned through trial, observation, and necessity, focusing on what works rather than theory. He keeps his methods simple and efficient. When Kagami returns from a mission with minor injuries, Sandman treats them without hesitation. He selects the right supplies, cleans the wounds, and applies the correct topicals. He does not overcomplicate the process. • Still working on the next lore post, so have this for now instead 🫶🏻 I found a few outfits references on Pinterest & sorta mashed them all together for my boy. So might as well use this as an opportunity to info dump a lil bit about Sandman 😻 - * Sandman is approximately 30 years of age during the founding of Konoha (around 4-5 years Madara Uchiha’s senior.) * Sazanami is often described as cynical, selfish and manipulative -assessments he does little to dispute. He does not see himself as cruel, merely practical. Morality, to him, is flexible; survival is not. * Sandman works as a shinobi of the leaf for a majority of his lifetime within the village, but runs a small apothecary on the side where he sells simple medicines to villagers and shinobi alike. Ｗａｔｃｈｉｎｇ　ｔｈｅ　Ｐｅａｃｅ ─ ⊹ ⊱ ⊰ ⊹ ─ From the rooftop, Sandman watched the streets below — merchants laughing, children chasing one another, shinobi moving without their hands near their weapons. No one was afraid. No one was on edge. It reminded him of everything Kagami believed: that peace was temporary, that death never truly left. The contrast bothered him more than it should have. He glanced over at the masked monk beside him. “you really don’t believe in the future of Konoha, do you?” “I believe it will end,” Kagami didn’t turn his head as he spoke, “as all things do. Peace is just a pause… Death doesn’t rest.” Sazanami exhaled, rubbing a hand over his face. “… Alright. You’ve depressed me enough for one day. I’m heading out.” He stood, brushing dust from his pants, then paused. “And hey,” he added, quieter, “watch who you say that stuff around. Not everyone will understand.” It wasn’t the consequences that bothered him; it was the aftermath. He didn’t care who heard Kagami’s truths, only that he’d be dragged into what came next. The monk inclined his head slightly in acknowledgment. Kagami’s metal forehead protector caught the moonlight. “Follow me.” Sandman glanced at the sky. “So late?” He yawned, rubbing at his eye with the back of his hand, “I was asleep.” Kagami didn’t answer. Sazanami sighed, stepped back inside, and pulled on his shoes. Moments later, he shut the door behind him and fell into step beside Kagami as they headed away from the village. They didn’t speak again until the trees closed in around them, the forest swallowing the path in shadow. “You wanted to see it,” Kagami said at last. Sazanami yawned. “Yeah. I just wasn’t expecting you to wake me up from my precious sleep.” “You lecture me often about caution,” Kagami replied. “Yet you expect me to perform rituals in daylight?” Sandman huffed a quiet laugh. “Yeah, yeah. Alright. Fair.” He squinted at the moonlight as they walked. “Let’s go, then. Before I wake up enough to regret this.” Kagami said nothing, but he didn’t slow his pace. - Sandman followed Kagami into the woods without knowing exactly what he would see, only that it would be different. He had seen the results of Kagami’s work before, but never the ritual itself. This was the first time Kagami had allowed him to watch. Sandman had asked out of curiosity, not belief. He had seen death often enough to recognize when someone treated it differently. Kagami didn’t rush it or waste it. Everything was deliberate, and that unsettled him. He told himself he just wanted to understand how it worked. In truth, he wanted to know whether death could have meaning, or if it was only a matter of timing. - guys I can’t stop making these stupid fake screenshots. 𝙰 𝚁𝚎𝚞𝚗𝚒𝚘𝚗 ─ ⊹ ⊱ ⊰ ⊹ ─ Sazanami was midway through an entry in his ledger when someone spoke his name. The quiet of the shop broke, and a shadow fell across the page, cutting the afternoon light in half “Hey, you’re blocking-“ He stopped, finally looking up. “Oh. Madara…” Sandman almost doesn’t recognize him at first. Madara’s taller now, broader, his presence pulling attention even when he tries to ignore it. They stood there for a moment, the space between them heavy with years they hadn’t shared. Then Madara nodded toward the door. Sazanami follows. They fall into step beside each other without thinking, like old habit. The two walk side by side for a while, a comfortable yet tense silence between them. “Sazanami,” Madara finally says, glancing over. “How’s the village been treating you?” Sandman exhales a quiet breath through his nose. “Better than the battlefield.” Madara huffs, something close to a laugh. “You always did choose comfort over pride.” “Survival,” Sandman corrects. “Pride doesn’t keep you alive.” Madara studies him for a moment as they walk past the quiet shops and houses. “And yet you’re still here.” Sandman’s mouth curves faintly. “So are you.” - When they were younger, Madara and Sazanami were rarely seen apart. They trained together, fought together, and shared the same long nights between battles where neither of them could sleep. Back then, loyalty was simple, and survival meant standing side by side. That changed when Sazanami defected to the Senju. Since then, their closeness faded into distance. Years passed with only brief glances across battlefields or crowded streets — never long enough to speak, never long enough to feel like the past hadn’t already ended. After the founding of Konoha, Sandman never sought Madara out. He knew Madara was busy, and more than that, he assumed the clan leader had no reason to want to speak to him anymore. [#NARUTOOC: Sazanami and Kiyouka first Meeting] (Founding Era) One day, while gathering herbs for medicinal teas deep in the woods, Kiyouka heard some sounds coming from afar. Curious, she followed the noise until she found a young shinobi practicing ninjutsu. She had never seen him before, so he wasn’t from her clan. The boy movements were fast and precise. Every technique looked effortless, sharp and controlled. And Even though she was afraid, she hid behind a nearby tree and watched in silence—hoping to learn. The Hyūga never allowed women to learn any form of combat training. Their purpose was clear: support others as medical ninja, or bear children. But, in secret, Kiyouka used to practice Gentle Fist techniques on her own. The abuse she suffered within the clan had taught her one thing: one day, she might have to fight back. “Who’s there?” he called out. “Come out now, before I decide to do something about it.” The little girl slowly stepped out from behind the tree, cheeks red with embarrassment and fear after being caught. Sazanami was surprised. “...What is a tiny brat like you doing out here?” Kiyouka immediately apologized. The pale eyes caught his attention: a Hyūga. Yet he had never seen a female Hyūga on a battlefield before, much less one so young. “My clan doesn’t let me train,” Kiyouka admitted quietly. “But I need to learn how to protect myself somehow. Though they aren’t related by blood, they share a close sibling bond built on years of understanding and trust. The two were separated during the Warring States period and didn’t reunite until after Konoha was founded, but despite the years apart, they slipped back into each other’s lives with ease.
