Our ongoing Youth Leadership Program 2026–2027 ToT Session was inspired by a visit from Laureen Thiam (@laureenthiam), a former Youth Leader from the Going Beyond Project Round 2 under @songambele_initiative

Laureen joined the session to share her journey, experiences, lessons, and mentorship with the new cohort of Youth Leaders who are preparing to create impact in their own communities

Her story is a true reflection of how the Going Beyond Project continues to empower young people, build confidence, strengthen leadership, and create a cycle of youth supporting youth for sustainable community transformation.

This week from the 25th to the 29th of May, has been nothing short of impactful. I had the honor of attending the You Lead Summit 2026 here in Arusha, where young leaders, policymakers, development practitioners, and institutions from across Africa came together under the theme: “Breaking Barriers, Building the Future: Youth Advancing Sustainable Development Through Peace, Justice and Green Transition.”

Every session was insightful, inclusive and engaging. Beyond the learning, one of the highlights for me was connecting with passionate young people from countries like Nigeria, Rwanda and Kenya all united by a shared vision of creating meaningful change across the continent.

Moments like these reminds me that Africa’s future is being shaped by bold, collaborative and purpose driven youth.

To every young leader out there: keep showing up, keep building and keep believing that your voice matters❤️.

Today marks the completion of a powerful 6 months journey of learning, service and leadership. I graduate with gratitude and a deep sense of fulfillment🤍.

Being part of the Going Beyond Program has shaped me both professionally and personally. It provided a platform to engage with communities, facilitated and supported over 81 youth peers in Siha district, kilimanjaro region through digital business facilitation and contribute to inclusive and practical solutions that respond to real needs.

This journey was made possible through the dedication and collaboration of @songambele_initiative together with @digitalopptrust and the @mastercardfoundation whose continued commitment to youth empowerment and digital inclusion is creating meaningful change. Through their support I was able to grow as a facilitator, strengthen my leadership and communication skills and better understand the value of partnerships in driving sustainable impact.

As I graduate today, I carry forward lessons of responsibility, resilience and purpose. This experience has reaffirmed my passion for youth-led development and my commitment to using my skills to create opportunities, empower others and contribute to long-term community transformation. The journey continues with greater clarity and determination.
