‘June Window Exhibition’ by @tamlinlundberg WIP - ongoing
Flint / Chalk / Weather / Landscape / Walk

Walking the landscape, being outside and becoming fully immersed in the restorative and meditative motion of a walk is most often the starting point. Closely looking.

The marks, forms and colours echo the land and accumulate alongside found objects, collected words and folklore.. and so the work evolves..
I am often lost .. I even encourage and embrace this feeling .. try to trust in my safe and intuitive return along old trodden paths .. looking and listening.
I often don’t know exactly where I am going and although I am fascinated by mapping and documentation, more so I’m interested in the unlabelled and unmapped, or differently mapped.

The landscape of experience might be documented and articulated through memory, objects and time.
The process of making is also a meditative, restorative act.
We leave traces on and in our environment, we exchange with our environment, we are part of it.. porous to the weather, each other and our communities.

@lostyardstudio is a collective of five women artists and ceramic makers

Before the Lost Yard Open on Saturday I thought I should introduce myself. I’m @sarahhorlock_ceramics and I have been sharing the beautiful space at Lost Yard Studio since this Autumn. I’ve been doing ceramics on and off for about 20 years, alongside working as an archaeologist and aerial photography specialist. It’s no surprise that my ceramics are predominantly inspired by archaeology and past landscapes. My home studio, once it's renovated, will continue to be used for my more functional work and Lost Yard will be a space for more artistic and sculptural archaeological projects. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me… by @lostyardstudio

Textured pots from a recent bisque firing @lostyardstudio
A combination of techniques achieved by throwing the initial form, applying different coloured slips through lace, scraping back the clay with various tools, adding underglaze, wiping it off….adding back.

Influenced by beach walk observations of erosion and fallen remnants of coastal dwellings.

A recent piece from a bisque firing @lostyardstudio using different clay bodies and coloured clays for contrast textures and random pattern. I enjoy combining clay, incorporating scraps from other projects and sculpting from the block of clay to reveal layers and unexpected formations.
