Mother North ‘26, Norway 🇳🇴

Probably the most beautiful country I rode a bike. Enormous, sunny, wet, cold, steep. Bruno made the most beautiful route on fast rolling gravel and some gnarly climbs. Through national parks, valleys, cute towns and famous cycling paths. Came to find my ultra mojo back, got home with a lot more.

Dales Divide 2026 ✅

Great course in absolute horrendous weather. Lot of learnings (don’t rely on hotels during bank holidays) and happy I got safe through storm Dave. Proud to be part of the 25% finishers.

Absolute the best introduction to the UK, it’s ultra scene, food, people and nature. Definitely coming back for more. taken in Arnside beach by @meolvin

BIG WHEELS KEEP ON TURNING — for Mechanics of Joy Episode N°52, we’ll be joined LIVE in studio by @meolvin!

On the show, we’ll talk about Melvin’s route into cycling as a passion and as a profession from his years @wheelrunnercc to managing brands at Dutch distro Agu and building his own name in the wheelbuilding game with with @adv.whls to more recent work with the @fietsersbond & wrenching with @j.guillem!

There’s always more than bikes on the show and something about Melvin that you may not know is he’s also an accomplished keyboardist with several bands and experienced in the studio as well. Hopefully we can play a track from his Discogs!

We’ll also talk 2026 plans like the @dalesdivide in April, the @wildcard.rally in June that he helps co-organize and recently joining @oldmanmountain’s Experimental Bikepacking Team!

✨ Adventure Wheels turns 2 years! I promised myself to share more of what’s cooking. So I’ll start off with a 2025 photodump.

I finished @hellenicmountainrace 🔥
It took a while to find the words, this ultra race challenged me way beyond the bike. I was determined to take my time and focus on ‘just’ finishing - but during the race I found that this strategy didn’t suit me - resulting in self doubt and silly mind games. Next race I’ll be prepared to fight the stats again 🫶
Nevertheless I’m super proud to have finished this 870km race with 28.000m elevation in 6 days and 17 hours.
Greece is beautiful, not just the rapidly changing landscape but also it’s people and food. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this safe and welcomed in a race. Thank you @nelsontrees for the great organisation and for showing us this part of the country.

The first edition of Wildcard was last weekend and it was so much fun! Our goal with this event was to create something accessible and fun, but with plenty of challenge built in if you wanted it. Such a nice group of people of all experience levels and cycling disciplines showed up, which was great to see. People also weren’t messing around when it came to missions! Most people slept in a bivy, many for the first time, and we had a whole bonfires worth of logs at the finish line. We also want to give a special shout out to the fixie riders who tackled the mtb trails, and to Max for collecting the most trash on route!

The overall points win went to Cargo Tim, who meticulously planned his route to maximise points, heading for the famous Rozenbos to do hill reps on his Omnium cargo bike. Totalling 1600m of elevation over 226km in the Netherlands is no small feat. Tim also found time to complete 10 of the 12 missions, bringing his total score to an outstanding 736.

Next up, Myles went for the distance win, skipping missions to focus on pure speed. He totalled 270km in the 10 hours!

Elvert & Lizzie won the missions category, completing all 12! They showed up on 26” mtbs they built up specially for the event, with a full set of bikepacking bags they made from IKEA bags. Thanks to these two for thoroughly stress testing the rules of this first edition (let’s just say the ‘fix a puncture’ mission was completed in a slightly questionable way 😅).

Finally Tim S went straight for the bonus mission, making it to the fire tower so fast that he actually beat us there 🫡

A huge shout out to @oldmanmountainracks @albion.cycling and @mucoff for the amazing prizes. The winners went home very happy.

Scratched!
Last week I started @arden2eifel a 660km mtb race where I pulled out after 200km. A relief, not a bummer. I was missing an intention, one that you need to take on a big challenge. @evanchristenson wrote about it in the latest edition of the @bikepackingcom journal. I wasn’t eager enough to finish nor to see the area, too soon after the previous race maybe. A pity, because it actually is beautiful and there are so many trails to enjoy.

Luckily I teamed up with my buddy @sjoerdhul who was underbiking the course and found the greatest bivvy spot, an abandoned hotel. We enjoyed the rest of the stroll back to the start, had beers at night and got what we came for. What rests is the pictures..
