Today Knox and I completed our first marathon🇺🇸
The first 7 miles were full of nursing breaks and stroller naps, but once he fell asleep, I made up some time and took off. When he woke up, we still had 10 miles to go and he was amazing. He watched the monuments, clapped for runners, waved to strangers, and even held my hand while I ran. 🥹
So many people came up to us, saying how inspired they were or how they wished they’d brought their little ones. Out of 40,000 runners, I only saw one other stroller with a baby!
One runner told me, “You’re setting the most impressive example for your son,” and that hit me hard. We can do hard things and we can do them WITH our kids. Let them see us struggle, so they know success lives on the other side.
I’m proud to call myself a marathoner, but even more proud to be his strong mom!

The way he looks at me💕

As our babies grow, we have the ability to frame our children’s worlds. It is a HUGE responsibility we have. What will their little eyes see? What does strength look like to them? What will their little ears hear? What does dedication sound like? What will their little hands feel? What does the knurling of a barbell feel like? (Right now he loves his plastic barbell!)

Knox will grow up watching his mom and dad run fast and pick up heavy weight. He will get a sweaty kiss after each workout and hopefully one day take over the business… I can’t think of a better way to grow up🐨

Hands-free running with my copilot, Knox🦦

Now Knox can be included in my @teamhoytvb races- pushing an adaptive athlete in the front and pulling my baby in the back and never excluding him💕

Showed up with a few weeks of shooting experience, borrowed gear, and questionable confidence.

Learned a lot, survived the chaos, and somehow had fun. Already looking forward to the next one in December! taken in Constellis Training Center by @mlekramer_

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our 3rd Annual Team Hoyt Virginia Beach x Kaizen Adaptive Training Run, Ride & Push!

This year, we had over 90 participants come together for our 5K, 8K, and 10K. Athletes, pushers, runners, families, volunteers, and supporters all showing up for one purpose: inclusion through movement.

One of the highlights for me was getting to run with Danny, one of our Kaizen Adaptive Training athletes and a stroke survivor, for the full 10K (it was his first time in a racing chair!)
Watching our athletes continue to challenge themselves and experience what is possible is exactly why we do this.

Three years of this event, and it continues to grow because of this community.

Thank you to every volunteer, participant, sponsor, vendor, family member, and supporter who helped make today possible. And a huge thank you to Team Hoyt Virginia Beach for continuing to partner with us and share the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to cross a finish line.

Already grateful and excited for year four🇺🇸 taken in Kaizen Athletics by @mlekramer_

Day 2 of @thetacticalgames compete

Finished the weekend 8th out of 15 women in the Intermediate Division.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped me prepare for this competition. Every piece of gear I used was borrowed, and I had some incredible people step up to teach me, help me learn how to shoot, and get me ready to compete. I truly couldn’t have done this without the people who gave their time, knowledge, gear, and support along the way. taken in Constellis Training Center by @mlekramer_

What a week🇺🇸

Monday through Thursday, 6:30–9:30 PM each night, I had the opportunity to co-host this year’s Soldiers to Sidelines Adaptive Athlete Virtual Coaching Seminar.

I’m incredibly grateful for every speaker who gave their time, shared their expertise, told their stories, and helped make this event possible. Bringing together adaptive athletes, coaches, clinicians, and leaders in this space created four nights of conversations and education that I hope will continue far beyond this week.

The need for knowledgeable, confident adaptive coaches continues to grow. Athletes with disabilities deserve coaches who are willing to learn, problem-solve, adapt, and see the athlete first, not the limitation.

My hope is that everyone who joined us this week walks away with more than information. I hope you leave with practical tools, greater confidence, and the willingness to step into your community and coach.

Keep learning. Keep asking questions. Keep creating opportunities for athletes who may not have had them before.

Thank you to Soldiers to Sidelines, every one of our incredible speakers, and everyone who spent their evenings learning alongside us.

Now go be a great coach. by @mlekramer_

Closing out triathlon season with Paris, our spinal cord injury athlete!

Throughout the race, I towed Paris during the swim, pulled him through the bike, and pushed him during the run all while pulling Knox behind me.

Choosing to do hard things builds confidence, resilience, and the belief that we are capable of moving forward when something feels difficult. But even more importantly, strength becomes meaningful when we have the opportunity to use it in service of someone else.

And having Knox there with us makes these experiences even more meaningful. I hope he grows up understanding that strength isn’t simply about what you can accomplish for yourself… it’s also about what you can make possible for others. by @mlekramer_
