So, here's some fun news! I've been head down, working away like a busy 🐝 over the last few weeks.

I had an idea in my head that I couldn't get rid off, so I decided to take action. I don't want the ghost of regrets haunting me at my death bed 👻☠️

MELBOURNE | Blackball

After dinner one night, @offthespork and @ieatblog decided we needed desserts, and we walked over to @blackballchinatown for some Taiwanese treats.

Little did I know it would be so fun! When we visited, it was the funniest jiggliest Psyduck, but walking past the other day, it's now a bunny 🐰

On to the dessert, we got to try a range of puddings, waffles, jellies. The main menu has a variety of mix and match options, so we just went with this as it had everything and it was so bloody cute!

Once an important trading hub along the Straits of Malacca, the city of George Town is known for its heritage British colonial buildings. Famous for having some of the best food in Malaysia, George Town is definitely a must-visit should you visit Malaysia

Toh Soon Coffee
Well known for their Hainanese Kaya Toast still cooked on top of charcoal. Boost the start of your day with strong cups of Teh C (milk tea) or Kopi-O (black coffee)!

Kheng Pin Cafe - Loh Bak
For over 50 years, this uncle has been selling deep fried savoury snacks, including Loh Bak, a type of 5-spiced season pork roll that is deep-fried until crispy.

Chowrasta Market
The open-air food area at one of Malaysia’s oldest markets is underrated in our opinion. The food area is a must visit, for one of the best Char Kway Teow in Penang.

Penang Road Teo Chew Chendul
The ultimate Penangite dessert and a cool down that is shaved ice, heaped with oandan infused jelly, coconut milk, gula Melaka, and red bean.

Located in a hidden alley in the busy market area of Pulau Tikus, we were introduced to this little coffee sanctuary from Kim Hock and Johnson. It provided us respite from the heat and gave us some delicious cold brews.

Pak Yusof Nasi Melayu
Mum and I discovered this popular Malay eatery by complete accident. Serving over 50 dishes, the flavours of the lauk and the rempah are excellent!

Cecil Street Market
Cecil Street Market puts together some of our favourite Penang dishes such as the Duck Koay Teow Teng from Lum Lai, Char Kway Teow from the Barefoot Man, popiah, pastries, and so much more.

Air Itam Asam Laksa
Opened only on weekends now, come for the beautiful fishy broth made from mackerel and a dark pungent sauce called ‘hae ko’, is not for the feint hearted.

MELBOURNE | Three Horses

Almost a week ago, feeling that the night was too young after dinner, I convinced @michaelvdelaney to visit @threehorsesbar with me.

And aren't we glad we did, as we had the best night! We were laughing, drinking, and even dancing along 😅

MELBOURNE | Juni

It's taken me a while to drop into @junimelbourne for a visit, and it so happens that @michaelvdelaney was free for a catch-up too!

We had good intentions of checking out their Feed Me menu, where you can choose from 4, 5 or 7 plates to share, but I didn't quite like the options they had and decided to do our own Feed Me option instead 🤭

🍽 What we had:
🐠 South Australian Kingfish Sashimi, Green Nam Jim, Coconut Cream, Lime
🦀 Fraser Island Crab Pani Puri
🍆 Typhoon Shelter Crispy Eggplant
🥖 Fresh Strachiatella, Stir Fried Chilli Paste, Macadamia & Thai Basil, Grilled Chinese Donuts
🦆 Dry Aged Half Chinese Duck served with melon, apple kimchi, spicy hoisin, pancakes

The meal was fun, it seemed like a lot of Melbourme was out that night as the restaurant was busy and they were turning over tables quick.

I was very much looking forward to the duck. It was good but no where close to the quality of Gambino or Aru.

The dishes we loved most were the starters of Kingfish and Crab Pani Puri 🤗 The eggplant was very good, crispy, though just a tad too sweet for me 💜

Through @enchantedtable.au, I currently host Enchanted Hours, a social reading event where people come together to read their latest fantasy/sci-fi books, grab a drink, have a snack, and build genuine connections with each other.

Two hours where you won't be doom scrolling. Two hours where you get to do something you love with no judgement.

And just like that, September has ended, and we've got 85 days to Christmas 🎄🙃

The last few weeks has been so fulfilling, and I'm starting to get back to the rhythm of full time work, running a new business, and reconnecting with friends who have given me the time and space to do this 🤗

There's been a renewed sense of purpose for me and @enchantedtable.au as I continue to see the fantastic connections I've been able to support, as well as my own joy and fulfillment in embracing my more creative side (slide 9).

It was also so fun to visit a work depot so close to home, and introduce work colleagues to my old Uni lunch haunt (slide 10), with a visit to Seng Heng 🤤

I finished reading ACOTAR in a week and am now anticipating the book release in October, wore a lot of green, ate a lot of food, mostly in Carnegie and Docklands, and feeling like myself so much again!

Thank you September, and here's to October!

MELBOURNE | Common Cuts

Steak Frites seem all the rage these days, and not just here in Melbourne it seems. Every scroll I make, I see steak frites being mentioned around the world.

Luckily for us, there are a few places serving up Steak Frites and at affordable prices too.

I recently visited @commoncuts.melb with full intention of trying their $28.50 Steak Frites but was completely upsold on their Set Menu instead.

And to be honest,no regrets. This allowed @carynng23 and I to yap away, whilst not having to worry about what else to try.

The set menu was especially great as it featured a number of key dishes I wanted to try, and for $70pp, it was a great deal.

Common Cuts Set Menu (they also have a special weeknight Mon-Thurs Menu which differs from this at $49 pp).

🐂 Wagyu Topside Steak Tartare
🦐 Grilled Prawn Cutlet, Sauce Verde, Nduja
🍞 Grilled Flatbread, Cauliflower & Smoked Onion Puree
🍝 Wagyu Brisket Lasagna & Bone Marrow
🥩 Wagyu Flank Steak Frites
🥗 Charred Asparagus, Miso Cream, Hazelnuts
🥜 Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich
🫖 Sauces: CC's OG Steak Sauce, Emtrecôte

What we loved was the variety and portion sizes that we got. The Wagyu Brisket Lasagna was a highloght (all the good bits of the lasagna as it's cut amd served lengthwise, topped with more cheese and grilled 😋).

The CC's OG Steak sauce was a tad too sweet and I regretted not getting my preferred chimichurri instead, though the Entrecôte was tasty).

MELBOURNE | Côte Basque

Vibrant, lively, elegant, refined.

Words that rarely belong in the same sentence, yet perfectly capture the vibe at @cote.basque.restaurant.
High energy, zero stiffness, fantastic service, and classic technique on the plate.

An entire restaurant at full capacity on a Tuesday night in Melbourne. If this doesn't prove that Andrew McConnell's latest venture has well and truly arrived, I don't know what will.

We started with beautiful cocktails, followed by a bottle of Baga wine, alongside a standout selection of snacks, mains, and desserts.

🥓🐙 Txistorra and Octopus
🐠 Blue Eye Crudo
🦐 King Prawn Sobrasada
🍞 Potato Bread

Was it expensive? Yes.
Was it worth the indulgence? Yes.
Will I come back? Heck, yes!

Mooncake but make it croissant 😍

BALI | Foraging in Ubud

Here's a Throwback for you! When we were staying at @mandapareserve earlier this year, the fantastic team took us out for a fun day of foraging with Chef Eka @sunarya89 🤗

They showed us some of the wild herbs, flowers, and fruits that is featured on the seasonal menu of their fine dining @kubuatmandapa

It was my first time seeing passionfruit in the wild (the purple alien looking plant), tasting a electric yellow flower (be warned), having a pop-up bar and a beautifully cooked meal, Balinese style in a jungle!
