my friends made a DOCUMENTARY about me for a competition and it did very well! 🕺🏾

so much love to ben ☯️, beau 🕹️, tess 🎤 and kaff ☕️ for curating a safe space where I could comfortably be myself and talk about my work on camera 🎥 it's actually my first time doing anything like this (countdown aside), and they made it really fun!

they shot and edited everything in a day and I'm still blown away how well it turned out - as were the judges, who think I'm 'an interesting and compelling character' 🌚

there's enough footage for a short netflix docuseries so I'm sure there will be more clips dropping soonish, but for those who didn't know me before, now you do! 🥸

also I don't always sound so 👔, I code switch on camera and haven't worked out how to change it yet 🫤 also also, oui, je suis autiste! :) 🦋 by @notquitenorth

With just over 2 weeks til @melange.ldn debuts, slightly diff post before I return to business mode (compulsory long caption warning)

I don't often talk about work on here, not least because my desk isn't very photogenic, but here's a short catch up!

This year marked my return to full-time work after a near two year hiatus. Probably CV-friendly to frame that period as a sabbatical, but between us, that's not compleeeetely true. It was more of a 'free'lancing, arty, wtf-do-I-want-to-do-and-how-tf-am-I-going-to-do-it-? kinda situation

I have ADHD [don’t we all?] and I'm on the spectrum [isn’t everybody?] (thanks mum and dad x), which has been GREAT for making art, but is far less suited to the corporate world - a reality shared with many other spicily-brained folk. Naturally I found it all quite challenging, so when I left in 2023, my confidence was super low and I really didn’t think I’d go back.

The universe ultimately had other plans, and alongside the 9-5 (marketing), I’ve also been blessed to have found a purpose for my return, using my voice to share about my experiences, hopefully holding the door open behind me and driving change in my own little way.

Lots cooking at the moment, but these are a few highlights I’m proud of - sitting as a keynote panellist at my old firm, voice acing for @coppafeel's recent ‘check your chest' campaign, pitching an inclusivity initiative to a room of finance execs, and featuring as a guest lecturer for a cohort of final year students at UAL…

surprised by folks with a spoken word set at @sofarstalbans andd created a core memory (+unofficial Sofar debut?)!

I love poetry DOWN and being able to share the stories behind my first pieces with the people who were there with me as I wrote them (back in my stage fright/covid/breakup era 🤓) was a nuts experience - grateful!🕺🏾

I love writing, hosting, performing, curating events, seeing artists shine, and live music. Not easy balancing all of those at the same time, but the juice is always worth the squeeze!

I deffo didn’t need another side-hustle, but the opportunity to bring @sofarsounds to St Albans was too good to pass up - and after lots of admin, calls, and mini-burnout, we sold out our first show!

To the artists, @leonaruemusic, @_gbogboade, @worldofmarleymusic, @georgebonemusic - you are all superstars and it was a blessing to hear you all perform live, so close to home!!

To Drew at @hazels.sta, you’re a legend man, I’ve never seen beer look so inviting and drinkable (also your venue was literally perfect and I will be back to stuff my face very soon)!

@emilydicksphotography you are the truth.

@devakawtsn you’re a pleasure to work with, and you should be so so proud of what you pulled off - back to the kitchen now!!

And to my friends in the audience, both old and new, thank you so much for coming! The crowd completes the show, and we couldn’t have asked for a better room to share our debut with ❤️

I love it when people ask me if I have a sibling, because it allows me to talk about my sister and how amazing she is!!

Today she turns 23, which has me pinching myself for real - it feels like only yesterday we were binge watching The Sparticle Mystery on BBC iPlayer (iykyk)!

To have faced so many adult challenges so early, and still be the graceful, joyful and kind person she is today leaves me inspired and in awe. She is truly one of one, blessed and destined for greatness.

I'm very lucky to have grown up alongside her, and the pursuit of being the brother she deserves has called me into the best versions of myself. For that I am so so grateful.

Titi, my best friend, my inspiration, and my awesome little bro, I love you so so so so so so so much, and I pray that I get to see you continue to blossom and grow as you continue on this amazing journey of yours! ❤️❤️ by @notquitenorth

For those here who've known me since school days (or uni for that matter) I promise the irony of me teaching secondary students is not lost on me all. (I was quite an energetic child in class, shall we say).

The second photo was taken when I was 13, on the day I was awarded a full academic scholarship. It should have been a joyous day, but as the photo suggests, I was struggling and had been for some time. The following year I had to withdraw.

The next years were challenging, but a journey that I wouldn't change for the world. I met the most amazing friends, discovered my passion for the arts, and went on Countdown!

Now, as an adult, I reflect on my teenage years and smile.

Being invited to an SEND school to speak to a class of boisterous year 10s about creativity and self-expression is incredibly full-circle, and God-willing I'll be doing it more!

last month I self published my first book, and became a top 10 bestselling author! 🕺🏾

seeing a work I've put together in the company of such esteemed writers hasn't quite sunk in yet!

it's been a really humbling process - reading thru the feedback, kind messages and reviews really warmed my heart, and I can only express gratitude for all the support I've received!!
