Made my first media project!

For my final assignment in my Intro to Digital Production class, I was assigned to make a 30-60 second promotional video for anything related to CMU.

For my project I decided to do a special on my teammate Daniel Cameron.

I was inspired by the 1998 Spike Lee Film “He Got Game”. In the film, ESPN does a special on Jesus Shuttlesworth, and gathers interviews from university coaches, and NBA players. For my project I interviewed two of my teammates, Isaiah Araya and Braeden Fernandez.

When creating my special, I tried to pay close attention to the type of shots that were used in the film, and the overall vibe of the whole thing.

The audio for me is my favourite part of my media project. In “He Got Game” they use the song “Black Jesus” by The Aleems. It is a very upbeat gospel track. For my project I decided to use Andraé Crouch’s 1976 hit “Soon and Very Soon”, because it gives off the same vibe.

Over the last 3 weeks, I’ve shot footage, recorded interviews, mixed audio, and edited the whole thing all together.

Prior to this project, I’ve had no idea how to use DaVinci Resolve. But throughout the process of this project I’ve learned a few skills in terms of editing and sound mixing.

Overall, this was an extremely fun project to do! by @orionremoquillo

21 🎉

Taking a moment to reflect on everything this past year brought me, honestly, it’s been one of the most meaningful years of my life so far.

After a semester of redshirting, I earned my spot on the CMU roster. That process taught me a lot about patience, discipline, and trusting the work even when no one sees it. Staying locked in during that time wasn’t easy, but it made the opportunity that much more rewarding.

To then go on and win NIAC in my rookie year is something I’m truly proud of. It’s a reminder that consistency, preparation, and belief in yourself can take you a long way. None of that happens without the people around me though, teammates, coaches, and mentors who’ve pushed me to be better every day and held me to a higher standard.

Alongside athletics, I also stepped into a part-time job this year, which taught me a different kind of responsibility and balance. Learning how to manage my time, stay disciplined, and show up consistently in multiple areas of life has been a big part of my growth.

Outside of competition, this year was just as important. I made new friendships, had experiences I’ll never forget, and created memories that I’ll carry with me for a long time. Every conversation, every lesson, every moment added something to my growth, not just as an athlete, but as a person.

I’m especially grateful for the mentors in my life. The guidance, advice, and knowledge they’ve shared with me has shaped the way I approach both sport and life. Still learning every day.

Turning 21 isn’t just a milestone, it’s motivation. There’s still a lot I want to accomplish, and I know none of it comes without continued effort. Staying focused, staying disciplined, and continuing to put in the work day in and day out.

Appreciate everyone who’s been part of the journey so far. This is only the beginning! by @orionremoquillo

It was a privilege to be in the same room as so many inspiring individuals!

I’m incredibly proud to be part of a group that embodies the humanitarian values of Terry Fox. Being surrounded by people who lead with purpose and compassion is both motivating and humbling.

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award changed my life, and I’m honoured to be carrying Terry’s legacy alongside these great people!

First speech of the year!

For my first speech in my Oral Communication class at CMU, I decided to give a speech about adversity. I believe that this is a very important topic, because majority of people struggle dealing with it and understanding it.

By gathering information from a few research studies, and sharing some of my own personal experiences, I aimed to give my class a new perspective on adversity.

Remember, adversity is not meant to break you, it’s meant for you to break through!

I hope you all enjoyed my speech and learned something from it!
