In the last 12 years this is by far the best news I’ve received. Things can be hard, it’s a lot for a lot of people out there right now, myself included, but seeing this gives me some hope for our future generations…

When Real Friends first started writing demos, even before we had a band name, Dave would title each demo file with the date we were working on it. The very first song we ever wrote together in 2010 was named “October 15th.” That demo would eventually become “A Little Too Nice,” the opening track on our very first EP, “This Is Honesty.” So yeah, October 15th, which is today, has always meant a lot to me. I look back on those beginning stages of the band fondly. I was in my early twenties, thinking I knew it all, bitter about past bands that didn’t work out. I used to say Real Friends was my last swing at doing this whole band thing. I remember giving up on trying to get signed, find a manager, and reach all those music business milestones I’d dreamed of. With my old bands, I’d cold-email managers, labels, and agents with little to no response. There was something freeing about not worrying about that stuff anymore. Real Friends felt special to me early on because it meant going back to doing it for fun, because it was what made me feel alive. Looking back, it was such a healing chapter in my life. “This Is Honesty” wasn’t exactly a celebrated release. We played about 10 local shows before deciding to stop everything, regroup, and go in a different direction that felt more genuine to us. That direction led to “Everyone That Dragged You Here,” the EP that truly sparked everything for RF. But without “This Is Honesty,” there is no ETDYH. And without ETDYH, there is no RF. Bringing it back my original point, without October 15th, 2010, there is none of the above. That first song was the seed of something greater than we ever imagined. And another kinda wild thing about this date: I recently got an age test done for one of my dogs, Little Girl, who is like a child to me. She’s an old rescue, and we never knew her real age. It turns out she was born on October 15th, 2010. The exact same day Real Friends wrote its very first song. There’s something pretty special about that. So yeah, this date means a lot to me, and I just wanted to let you know why. Thank you. Love ya. 🖤
