![At the Edge of Definition: sabukaru Presents VERNONLINE
Vernon [@vernonline] has always existed across multiple boundaries, between cultures and languages, between the mainstream and the underground, between who he is in public and who he is when the cameras are not deciding what that means. VERNONLINE is a project that starts from that condition and follows it outward.
K-pop itself no longer fits inside a single image or set of conventions. As different genres, languages, images and cultures continue to intersect and merge, the scope of what exists under the name of K-pop keeps expanding, and Vernon has spent more than a decade moving through that expansion, carving out a space of his own while continually exploring what lies beyond its familiar edges. The project takes his tastes and attitudes as its entry points and explores what emerges at the intersections where different worlds meet, overlap and blur into one another, the dimensions of Vernon that exist beyond the established image of a K-pop star.
Boundaries may appear fixed and distinct, but in reality they are constantly shifting, overlapping and bleeding into each other. In that landscape, it becomes increasingly difficult to determine where one side ends and another begins, or where exactly we belong. The title came from his Instagram username, vernonline, read two ways simultaneously. Vernon and line, with line meaning a boundary. Vernon on line, meaning someone standing directly on one. Both readings fit the project and neither one cancels the other out, which is also the point.
