Never sits still
This boy is constantly on the move. ADHD kids aren’t always moving because they’re being “bad” which sometimes I have to remind myself off when he’s jumping up and down and I feel like I’ve asked him to stop multiple times.
Their brains are literally wired to need movement to stay focused and regulated.

That’s why they wiggle during movies… bounce in their seat at dinner… and somehow get up 47 times while eating 🙃

Movement helps them:
• stay alert
• focus better
• release extra energy
• handle sensory input

So the constant motion?
It’s usually self-regulation, not defiance.

Sometimes the wiggles are actually what’s helping them function

If you’re raising an always-moving kid… you’re not alone

The getting up 47 times during dinner is so real. We finally stopped fighting it and let him eat standing at the counter some nights, dinner went from war to just dinner.

My 5 year old son was recently diagnosed with ADHD. It's been a long and VERY tiring journey to get to this point.

Oh c’mon 80% of boy kids have adhd then - I think learning how to manage behaviors to get things done is much netter than to put a sticker on kids - can’t focus .. okay less TV less speedy things .. take time to do some relaxation.. try to do more slow activites between active activities… that’s my opinion

We struggled with this too. A few simple routine changes made a huge difference. More ADHD parenting tips at @mentor.eduonline

getting up 47 times during dinner is so real it hurts. "self-regulation, not defiance" is the reframe every grown-up in an adhd kid's life needs taped to the fridge.

So true lol I don’t think I’ve ever seen my son stay still for longer than a few seconds

Aw, the boys feel it with their whole body. It’s why intentional movement breaks aren’t an option and why I had a sensory path in the back of all my classrooms.
