What if the site’s oldest residents curated the masterplan?

At Kingloch Parade, the site's protected trees became the framework for an entirely new neighbourhood. Completed in collaboration with @_sl_ab_, paths, homes and communal spaces were carefully arranged around the existing landscape, creating a walkable community that’s defined by a generous canopy of mature gum trees.

Mid-century architecture precedents provide a quiet backdrop, with sawtooth roofs and sandy brickwork sitting comfortably beneath leafy shadows as the sun moves throughout the day.

Handing the masterplan to the site's oldest residents and keeping the architecture to sawtooth roofs and sandy brick is real discipline — the buildings sit as understory to that gum canopy. And the brick tone looks picked for exactly this job: soft enough to take a full day of leaf shadow without turning busy.
